Royal splendour of Mysore

The Mysore Palace, one of the grandest of India抯 royal buildings, was the former seat of the Wodeyar maharajas.
The Wodeyars ruled Mysore during more than 500 years. The royal lineage can be traced back to 1399.

The Wodeyars were great patrons of the arts and the finest craftsmen in the country were employed to work on the palaces. I will post pictures of its interior next time.
The old palace was gutted by fire in 1897. The three storied structure in the Indo-Saracenic style you see on the photos was built between 1897 and 1912 and designed by the English architect Henry Irwin.
