For a westerner to understand Japan is liking trying to read a musical partiture without having no idea in music. The culture is so unique and different that it takes years to comprehend.
One of the weirdest things I encountered in Tokyo was the Harajuku girls.

Harajuku is the common name for the area around Harajuku Station on the Yamanote Line in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo, Japan. The area is known internationally for its youth style and fashion.

The term "Harajuku Girls" has been used by English-language media to describe teenagers dressed in any fashion style who are in the area of Harajuku. These girls may be members of various sub-cultures including Gothic Lolita, Ganguro, Gyaru, and Kogal, or may often cosplay as characters from an anime, movie, or manga.

Sometimes I wonder who am I
who made the trees, who made the sky
Who made the storms, who made heartbreak
I wonder how much life I can take

I know I like to dream a lot
and think of other worlds that are not
I hate that I need air to breathe
I'd like to leave this body and be free

I'd like to float like a mystic child
I'd like to kiss an angel on the brow
I'd love to solve the mysteries of life

who am I ? - Lou Reed

Hi Savas, I like the composition here, with the face off centre arm filling the frame and also, as korkut said making the image more dynamic. It is certainly a weird thing that these girls chose are so obsessive about decorating themselves in this style. cheers, Steve

Savas: I posted a workshop - an old sharpening script by a chap named Luko who used to frequent these parts - but the essential elegance of your shot rings. c

Hi Savas!
Great portrait! Surprising, amazing, hard, colourful... from another world?? Nooo, this is part of our world...Thanks for your note, it seems that this planet go to extrems.

hello Savas,
this is a strong image with a good composition. I like the tight framing and the hand on the hat.The eye with its surround of blue sequins is perfectly placed within the frame and the blue a good countepoint to the red and black.
I am aware of Japanese street style by reading a book by Shoichi Aoki with the strange title of Fruits. This is a book of photographs showing Japanese teenagers dressed in all sorts of weird and wonderful styles. These images were shot on the street and include notes about where the clothes were bought or made etc.
regards
Bev

I like this portrait, you pictured very well an attitude and the colours are great.

portraits keep coming... yet another good one with a tight framing and eye-catching red details... the hand on the hat adds dynamism i think... very nice as always sava...

(i want a pair of lenses like that to frighten the patients>:P...)

cheers

korkut

Geia sou Sava,
Besides the great presentation of this Harajaku girl, i appreciate your "traveller of the world" personality, due to your work, i guess.
When it comes to the portrait, the use of the red is splendid: the hat, the arm, the shoulder make a fantastic red stain inside the greyish tones. The ice-blue lens of the girl is "bizzare" :)
Ta leme,
Deniz

Well done, Sava. I know these parts well, a goldmine for photographers.
cheers,
CT
