Gandantegchinlen Khiid Monastery is in central Ulan Bator & one of the few tourist attractions really worth seeing. It follows the Tibetan style of Buddhism.

From Wikipedia:

"The Gandantegchinlen Khiid Monastery, commonly known as Gandan Monastery, is a Tibetan-style monastery in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar that has been restored and revitalized since 1990. (When the Soviets left). The Tibetan name translates to the "Great Place of Complete Joy." It currently has over 150 monks in residence. It features a 26.5-meter-high statue of Migjid Janraisig, a Buddhist bodhisattva also known as Avalokitesvara. It came under state protection in 1994.

The monastery was established in 1835 by the Fifth Jebtsundamba, then Mongolia's highest reincarnated lama. It became the principal center of Buddhist learning in Mongolia."

There are Buddhist prayer wheels in the foreground, & you should always go around them clockwise.

Hello Chris,

Very good PoV, the sky is nice and blue and the contrast is very nice.

Thanks for sharing

Regards
Kamran

Hello Chris,
A good capture of this beautiful monastery which provides a splendid contrast in architectural styles with the high rise buildings off to the left. Very good colours and clarity.

Hi Chris,
It's for sure in Mongolia you got the best skies and shooting conditions, probably with the help of dry air. Nice massive building apparently laid in a less interesting environment, from that point of view heritage architecture seems well ahead of modern one.
Have a nice day JY

I think nearly impossible to speak thsi word: Gandantegchinlen Khiid.
Beautiful pastel colour in this capture. I love the composition. You have captured it very well with excellent details.
Best wishes,
Achim

Hi, my friend!
Today Mongolia. I like your view. Very interesting and oryginal architecture. Good colours and light. Well done.

Hi Chris.
You kept the exposure under pretty good control for this one, with all those white-ish walls reflecting the sunshine. I have this idea that just about all of Ulan Bator might look like what we call 'backblocks'. There are remarkably few (nil) people about for a great monastic site. I like the angle of view, making it look imposing and giving a good idea of its setting.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Chris

Hi Chris,
The lovely golden trim on the temple is beautifully complimented by the vivid blue sky and its swirling clouds.
Excellent sharp details and clear colors with a nice blend of the modern and the ancient.

Namaste Chris
Really a great sight this must be with the majestic monastery against the polarised blue sky. Exposure is excellent especially with so much of white around. A fine post & a very informative note

Hello my friend Chris,

It is always a pleasure to discover places that only you can show us in TE. I was under the impression that Buddhism had been almost erased from Mongolia after all these years of communism, but it seems that I was wrong. Nice WA picture which lets us see the shrine and the surroundings.
All the best - Izzet
