Photographer's Note

The two sanctuaries of Torre Maggiore, partially rebuilt by the Romans on pre-existing Italic temples. The first of the two sanctuaries dates back to the 6th century BC, the other to the II century BC. They were the most important centers of worship in southern Umbria. Their cult was active, probably, until the beginning of the 4th century AD. The main temple of the sanctuary was probably dedicated to Italic Mars, rural god and fertilizer, peaceful healer and protector, guardian of the fields and borders.
