This posting is of a couple enjoying a cup of tea at a roadside farm house overlooked by the unmistakable 2273 feet high bulk of Pen y Ghent. The hanging baskets and border flowers around the farm house certainly give this shot a look of summer.
Pen y Ghent is in terms of height, the lowest of the 'Yorkshire Three Peaks', the other two being the flat topped Ingleborough [2373 feet] and Great Whernside [2414 feet]. The Pennine Way, a long distance footpath stretching from the Derbyshire Peak District to the Scottish border passes straight over the top of Pen y Ghent. This mountain is also the first to be ascended by anyone doing the 'Three Peaks' circuit. The circuit takes about 12 hours, and participants usually 'clock in' at the village cafe / post office in nearby Horton in Ribblesdale and clock out on their return, thus giving the exact time taken for the walk. It also tells the proprietors how many people and who they are, are out on the fells and mountains should bad weather set in.
