Photographer's Note

Back to The Netherlands

And now for something completely different. I have photos from quite a few trips I made over the past two years waiting, so even though my intended holiday next week has been cancelled for obvious reasons, I will have plenty of new uploads. One of those recent trips wasn抰 a safari in an African country, on the contrary. In fact, it抯 been a while since I last posted a photo that was taken so close to home, as I have been seriously neglecting my home country with only one photo in 2018 and one in 2019. So I抣l have to make up for that a bit.

This photo was taken during a visit to Landgoed Hoenderdaell (The Hoenderdaell Estate) near the town of Anna Paulowna, which claims to be one of the animal-friendliest zoos in the Netherlands. It is home to several species of birds, reptiles and mammals and also houses Stichting Leeuw (The Lion Foundation), which aims to rescue lions, tigers and other felines worldwide and offer them shelter. It also strives to return the rescued animals to their natural habitats, if that proves to be possible. Here抯 one of the rescued lions enjoying the late September sunshine.
