ever get bored of that everyday, mundane to the extent of your widest yawn*, road-side scene while getting to work and back? well, here's my solution: go to Wyoming and take one of the most scenic highways in the US, the road from Cody to the Yellowstone National Park. just be careful watching the sides (unavoidable) while driving: don't want to run over any grizzlies or bisons... or did i get it backwards? don't want to be run over by them... ;))

DON (fulvio52), this one's for you, buddy!

--
* of course, doesn't apply if you live IN Wyoming...

Hello Kristaps, nice landscape with very good colors and composition!

TFS and regards,

Phil

Hi Kristaps,
We plan to be travelling this road in about 3 weeks - can hardly wait and hope the weather is as good as you found it. Nice work with the D300 - thats on my agenda very soon too. Well done and TFS. Gerald

Hi Kristaps,
Great shot, the mountains shrouded in cloud look fantastic.
Good POV and composition, with wonderful light and shade.
The lone telephone pole really looks out of place.
Top shot.
Regards
Peter

Hi Kristaps, the quality of the light makes this photo stand out for me. I love how it brings out the texture and shadows of the mountain. The low-lying cloud adds drama and atmosphere to the shot. A desolate, even foreboding scene, but beautiful. Good work!
Ryno

Kristaps

Excellent week-end.
Daniel.

The cloud seems like a huge enck of the mountain which it has stuck out to gobble up the skies! I love the colours and textures that you have got here along with the wide view

hi Kristaps

I will follow your suggestion and ride this road for this delightful glimpse of evening view with warm sunlight falling on the side of rock faces with nice presence of thick clouds to finish up the scene.

Good sharpness and DOF from f/13 choice. And ISO400 is still good to get fast shutter. tfs

It is wonderful out here and this is what I meant, just drive, sometimes stop, a little food and back to the car, and this goes and goes for hours sometimes. Last year, in Colorado, we came back from the Black Canyon of the Gunnison (great great park and less visited than many others) and it was a dangerous road with no side fence to hold you when coming off the road - and I guess it would have been the end if an accident happens - when all of the sudden a huge heavy bear ran over the street and this was the wildest surprise because I never thought they came to this area but what a treat, he seemed very busy so no chance for a picture. When I see your photo I am not sure which direction to go next year (I was planning on something else, something more beach-like). So, no more of this, Sir, ... please please please ... otherwise I change my mind again :)))) Fantastic light, fantastic scenery, a great dedication for the DON. I am sure he loves it, but probably he is still sleeping in after a heavy night ... Barbara.

Helo kristaps
What to say
EXTRAORDINARY nature scene
Excellent moment in time
Bravo
Cheers,Braca

Fantastic shot, Kristaps!!! THANK YOU, my friend!
IMNAAHO : to take good pictures out West you've got to understand the western light FIRST, which is a whole different ball game than what we outsiders are used to. That's why plenty good western compositions turn unfortunately sour when showing up on TE : dull lighting is a constant.
Well, it didn't take you an eyewink (same applies to Kristine) to master THAT light! My compliments : it took me MUCH longer than that, and I still got a loooooong way to go.
The light quality in this one is top notch! It brings out those magnificent rock textures while enhancing shapes and shadowplay to the max. And you fully deserve those great clouds on a perfectly framed, wonderful landscape!
Off she goes into my faves. She would have anyway, also without your kind dedication.
GREAT JOB, thanks for sharing!
Have a good weekend, I'll see ya soon.

The Don

Kristaps, you may have had some bad weather but you surely had some good weater as well. This scene is awesome and the detail is fantastic, this sure seems to have been a trip well worth the effort and money. Great capture.

BEAUTIFULLLLLLL landscape, and I love the lighting and colors. The sky also looks great! TFS and have a happy day!

Kristaps ;-)
Seems you and Kristine had a nice trip to this wonderful park. Landscapes there can be spectacular which you prove here. Although the image is a bit wooly (correct English?), i like your view and the colours in here. Of course that big warm cloud adds a lot in the photo, but also on the composition it's a strong picture.
In '94 i stayed the night in Cody and drove the next morning to Yellowstone, you are right, a great road to drive with wonderful views. Nice bear encounter, i have also one from my last trip, will post it in the coming weeks/months.
Take care, Henk

didn't I see someone yawning on the road while in Wyoming?! :P but you're right, 99% of the time I was glued to the window of the car or demanding an urgent stop to take a photo of this, that, and may be two those as well. love the layered light and textures, especially the soft and puffy clouds topping everything like a whipped cream on cookies. the shadow in the foreground works well to add depth to the scene. beautiful!

hugs,
K.

What a scenery, Kristaps...!!!
Wyoming - you said ...?
One of these days, brother... One of these days...
Gotta go there..

g.
...........
The bottom part of it ...?
It looks like some sort of cut and stitch - isn't it ?
Just an extra value for this charmer - i guess...

Hej Kristaps,
It's like this landscape can never ever be anything else than American, they are so specific and iconographic and you've framed them in a marvelous light. Just envy you a lot. and I'm sure there be people willing to kill (not people but other things to have this view)

Hi Kristaps,
I agree that this is wonderfully scenic highway.
The spectacular bluff catch light in shadows in a way that the strange colors play tricks with ones eyes.
Great textures to the bluffs that are seen in brilliant light.
The features that puts this one over the top is the dramatic cloud bank sitting gently on the beautiful bluff.
Regards, Tom

Hi Kristaps,
Wow this big developping cloud is impressive and adds a contrasting bonus to the nice warm light hitting the mountain, like it !
Have a nice day JY

Kristaps,
Looks like you encountered some severe weather up there, it's hard to predict the weather up in the mountian. It can in theory ruin your trip. I have a friend who went to Yellowstone a couple of year ago, it was foggy and rainy, he stayed ther for 5 days and didn't really see much of anything. It seem you have a few good days. This one is very dramatic the way the clouds moved in. The sun shining on the Yellow Stone, illuminating golden tone on the landscape. just beautiful. Excellent work as always. Thanks my friend.
Way

Hi, Kristaps -

Gorgeous scene, and great handling of tricky light.

Dan

Hi Kristaps
Stunning landscape! It seems huge and imposing! I like the enormous clouds and the contrast. Amazing light, details and colours as usual. Well done and thanks for sharing!
Best regards

Hey Kristaps,

Hahaha...obviously you survived the stampede huh. Lovely warm ambient hues just makes you sit back and relax the golden hour.

All the best :)

Hi Kristaps,
What a dramatic composition with the the heavy dark clouds providing a BG for the sunny sweep of the terraced red hills and golden fields. Then you capture the tops of the clouds against a clear blue sky!! WOWZA!!!
I don't really understand the title.

Hi Kristaps,
It's the clouds in this image so white and fluffy blanketing the warm tones and textures of the rocks that I find great. A lovely feeling of wide open space and just beautiful nature.
Regards
Wanda

hello Kristaps,
WOW, what a shot! I have been on that road and it well worth the trip.
Wonderful capture here with the evening light.
There is so much definition in the landscape.
Well done,
Joni

It's great that you have left the electrical pole, a rather incongruous object in this wild land, now I see the tip of another one on the right : they are in evidence because of the dark BG and without them, I would have been less interested in this photo as they are giving more indications about the vastness and the grandeur of this scenery...

Really spectacular, beautiful light !
But personally, I have been more "seduced" by your misty, so beautiful from Yellowstone, so inspiring and (for me), full of feelings and emotions - well, these climatic conditions don't last of course !

Friendly regards,
Cath.
:))

Hello Kristaps,
What amazing light! beautiful light and color indeed, moreover big puffy cloud is exquisitely flying up from the mountain. Impressive shot.
Have a nice day, Hisashi
