Taktshang ( means tiger also known as Tiger's Nest, the Tiger's Lair) Goemba ( Monastery ) is on a ledge with a sheer drop of 1200 m below. Taktshang consists of a number of temple buildings of which the "tpelphu" is the main one. It is believed that in the second half of the 8th century, Guru Rimpoche (Padmasambhave) travelled to this place in the last of eight forms, "Dorje Drolo" on the back of a flying tigress. After his arrival he meditated in a cave. This actual cave is the most sacred place of Taktshang around which the lhakhangs or temple buildings are arranged

The legend of Taktshang (tiger’s lair) evolves from tantric mythology when, in 747 AD, Guru Rinpoche (Padma Sambhava) chose a cave on this sheer rock face to meditate and, assuming his wrathful form, Guru Dorji Droloe, astride a tigress, subdued the evil spirits that were haunting the region. Taktshang thus became one of the most important monuments to the establishment of Buddhism in Bhutan and one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in the Buddhist world.

Guru Rinpoche’s principle consort, Khandro Yeshey Tshogyal, also meditated in the cave that has come to be known as the Pelphug - or the Drubkhang.
The Pelphug, which is the most sacred sanctum of Taktshang, is the essence of Taktshang’s spirituality and the unique monastery, with 10 main temples and numerous sacred spaces, is built around it.

Magnifique !

Amicalement,
Youssef.

Impressive site Armand. The red and yellow roofs outdo the scenery in splender. The photo has great DOF and well done on the perspective.

Cheers.

Wow this is really something very inline with the TE main theme - learn about the world. The place is just incredible, the photo just perfect.

Bonjour Armand
Pffff...
Merci

Incredible shot of an incredible place! Great colours and interesting note.

great shot of an unreal place. i will dream of going here. nice shot

Wow Amazing! I think I cannot leave on this place like this hehehehe. This is very scary, good composition and lightning.

Very very nice shot!! How this can be built is really fascinating. Very good frame, colors....perfect. Thank you very much!

What a wonderful photograph of this monastery, Armand. Your POV really makes this composition quite outstanding (apart from the fact that you have framed it perfectly). I didn't have the energy to climb up this high - the lookout below was as high as I got. Technically everything is right about this photograph and you have achieved excellent sharpness. I have added this to my favourites. Cheers . . . David

Armand de Smet:

Bonjour Armand,

Bien vu!
Quentin.

Stunning photo of an equally stunning place. Good work on the depth and perspective here, and the colours come out wonderfully vivid.

Bonjour Armand,

what an amazing place, landscape and photograph, great colours and sharpness. well done I guess the place does all the rest. absolutely wonderful.

You've already accumulated heaps of points, but I have to give you two more. Bhutan is such a mystic place and I would love to visit (too bad for the fees). This looks like a magnificent place and absolutely gorgeous.
You've put the temples in a good spot showing the drop of the cliff. Good colours in the green and blue in the sky.
