@ 6 AM (and it was a darned chilly morning too...) by the yellowstone river, allegedly the largest tributary to the upper missouri (river).

inside the yellowstone national park, the yellowstone river valley is considered a prime wildlife watching area. the river is quite popular also amongst anglers. however, fishing is prohibited in some sections of the river.

this photo was shot very close to the scene depicted in my earlier post. the nostalgia one was shot about half an hour later than today's post. a magical broader view of the same place from an even earlier hour was posted a while ago by avene.

have a great weekend, folks! :)

IN THE WORKSHOP: the same spot about 20 minutes BEFORE the sun came up. Unfortunately, I could not persuade the geese to fly through again once the better light arrived... Stubborn beasts...!

Ciao Kristaps,

hi kristaps,
such a morning makes you forget how morning it is! ;o)
(or you forget very quickly when you're already in the closest warmest place around with a cup of hot chocolate in your hand and check the 'captures' on the display of your pc)
you guys were really gifted in that amazing park from the 'land of free'!
... this is beautiful again, still at the border between real and imaginary, both in color and vision.
still at the hour when fairies "fly by"!
very nice!

Hi, Kristaps.
Yep, looks like we're all in for some serious competition... Damn yankees, first time they go out West they come up with gorgeous shots!
Hell, once they also gonna wear a pair of rattlesnake-proof boots there'll be no stop on them... LOL!!!
Well, what can I say... a masterful display of exposure and light management, on top of an astonishing view. Magic, absolutely magic!
I believe one's got to earn his shots... Which you DO, I can see that time after time.
Perfect timing, superb technicals, MY COMPLIMENTS!
Looks like we'll have to step up a couple notches to keep up with The Latvian Connection...
Have a good weekend, buddy. THANKS for sharing!

Hi Kristaps,
I remember Kristine her wonderful image with a much wider framing. But here, man you also hit the needle right on the head. What a mood with that early morning (getting up early always a good idea :P) fog lying over the land and water. Those trees coverd in the fog, the light, the clouds...all look great for bringing up this wonderful moody picture.
6am really paid off here...good idea getting up early..!!
Have a great weekend, Henk

nice one, the golden light and "natural sepia" does make all the difference, without them the shot wouldn't be half as captivating. I like a lot how the billowing mist in the foreground mirrors the cloud textures, it's almost impossible to separate the sky from the earth. the silhouettes of the trees are absolutely necessary to "anchor" the shot, well seen.

best,
K.

This was well worth the early morning wake up to capture this splendid shot. The atmosphere and colours are amazing here, beautiful shot Kristaps.

Bonjour Kristaps,
c'est une très belle série que tu nous proposes ici.
Les couleurs sont magnifiques et la brume n'en efface rien.
On devine un ciel magnifique, magique. Simple mais efficace, la séduction immédiate.

Hi Kristaps,

it's really beautiful! The fog creates a gret mood. Thank you for the one in the ws. I also like that "darker" version. Top quality photo, well done!

Hi Kristaps,
What a splendid morning. You captured a very peaceful morning atmosphere here. Misty &simple & beautiful composition.
Congrats and have a nice weekend,

This one is magical, I started to comment hours ago but TE's slowness to respond made me quit, the shots are so great and the site is so frustrating these days.

Your shot here is like from a different world and time, and while I am not sure about the geese I bet this looked pretty much as it does here before man walked the earth. Great job.

Greg

Hi, Kristaps -

I'm not sure which I like better; this one or the WS. Each created a different but attractive mood. I think the WS gets the edge, but maybe I would vote the other way if this were cropped a little bit more.

Best,
Dan

Hello Kristaps!
I see that you had great time in Yellowstone. I have one great photo from Kristine added to my favorites and I see that you both have lots of nice photos. Here, you found a nice point of view to get the sun on the fog and the atmosphére is beautiful. Very nice one!

Hello Kristaps:

A scene from movie, I like the treatment that gives the fog on stage. The trees, just out in a balanced manner within the composition. Great shades and a good effect on the existing lighting that produces

Splendid-splendid ! Sunshine and mist combined, plus probably your own interpretation as well : a great chemistry and a superb result !

(Your WS photo is also very inspiring, light not perfect but IMO more interesting than the déjà vu and too perfect landscapes that we see so regularly on TE - the geese flying there, so moving for me - a splendor too !)

Bravo and best regards,

Great mysterious and wounderful peace to this misty morning shot.
The small stand of evergreens make for a fine focale point for all the mist and golden colors to gather.

Hi Kristaps,
I like mysterious feels create by mist, impressive morning scenery in tangeria color, hidden sun and soft sunlight increase again the mysterious feel, WS photo is helpful to show different morning mood in dim color, lively to see flying birds, good shoot.

Hi Kristaps,
A tranquil atmosphere with the mist rising from the water and enveloping that wonderful group of tall trees. I love the almost sepiarish colouring that is created and the sun peeping through the clouds and just reflecting on the water slightly. I can just imagine that it must be quite silent there.

Kristaps,
Well this image look very warm and cozy like in a steam room. You can go down to the river and soak up all the warm. Okay, maybe not, look can be deceptive. Love the way the steam and cloud creating such a wonderful mood for this shot. the layers of landscape can still be seen lightly through the mist which look wonderful. I know, how hard it is to get out of the warm bed and drag yourself out there to make a few shots. But this photo sure make it worth the effort. Thanks my friends for delivering us this shot. My admiration to you.

Hi Kristaps,

I must say that this gentle silky haziness gently dancing above water surface does fondle my soul as it feels I could get easily lost in this dreamscape forgetting about the rest of the world... With or without those ducks :)
Your photo does not need them as it is perfect just the way it is.
Captured moment of silence.

Hi, Kristaps.
Wonderful and misty atmosphere.
I like the lights and the colors.
Fantastic work.

I'm not very into landscape photography but I really love what you achieved here. Light is perfect: the fog, golden light beams of rising sun. It looks like a beautiful painting.

Really really nice shot.

I've heard D300 is quite a nice camera. I'm using D200 myself from time to time (lately I mostly shoot film) and I'm thinking on switching to D700 when I get save some cash.

Best

Hello Kristaps,

Hi Kristaps, I like all your recent nature photos from Yellowstone, but this one is probably my favourite. There's an element of mystery in the mist, the way it merges with the clouds, and the trees emerging from it. National Geographic stuff. Well done!
Regards,
Ryno

Hello Kristaps
Yes I do remember Kristine's magical shot, a bit wider. But this is excellent as well, especially with the curtain of mist rising from the river. The sun seems to be lost behind the clouds...otherwise it was pretty high up within a hour's time. And I loved the Ws with the geese. The light is low in that alright. I wonder how dramatic this same scene would look just at the stroke of dawn! Fine work!

Angshu
