| 介绍: | I subscribe to the philosophy behind TrekEarth, i.e. the objective of the site is "to learn about the world". I consider myself a traveller, rather than a tourist. This means, to me, trying to understand the underlying social and cultural variables bearing on life today, in various potential destinations. In advance of departure, I undertake considerable research, within resources, to pre-view what I am likely to see and experience. I want to feel satisfied, after the fact, that I have learned something valuable from the travel. TrekEarth offers the opportunity to check out what others have seen before me, to assist in validating my personal interest in any choice of destination. I confess, and I am sure this is controversial, that I disagree with those who believe the primary purpose of TrekEarth is "to learn about photography" using the world as experimental subject matter. I see little value in uploading photos which show scenes (e.g. with rainbows and sunsets) with a label saying "India" or "Egypt" when, to my understanding, rainbows and sunsets may be seen anywhere. Ideally a photograph should show something that is distinctive about a particular location. Also,I would like to comment in regards to the "stroking" system which operates in TrekEarth. I appreciate each and every critique received - even the superficial ones clearly intended to engender reciprocity. I invariably reply to the more thoughtful criticism. I have experienced a number of instances where critiques were given, and then taken down, when it was discovered that I do not award "brownie-points". I work very hard at taking photos in the field; then when it is time to edit; and again when I upload, to ensure accurate commentary. I also have (subject) objectives in terms of which pictures I upload. I believe the Yoruba word(s) for civilization is(are) ola-ju - the open eye. Let us show the world, through photography, with both open eyes and minds! |
