Great PaulVDV 2022-05-06 11:58

Hello Mariusz,
I've never been anywhere where there were whale watching tours. I guess I spent too much time in cities, mountains and deserts :) Not the right habitat for whales, I think.
Anyway, I think it looks very spectacular in this photo.
What I'm wondering right now is how far this whale was from your boat.
It's a pity, of course, that people get sick at the peak of the show.
Was the sea so turbulent? Or maybe the jumping whales caused a lot of swell on the ship.
It would of course also be interesting to mention the places where the whale watching tours were not interesting.
Best regards, Paul

Default To PaulVDV: distance, destinations, rough sea

Hi Paul,
I have done some tours in Southern California. It is definitely worth to pay attention to the season, meaning when they are actually expected there because I think in Boa Vista tours are organized all year round... Maybe I am wrong, maybe they stop the tours after season....
For example Boa Vista is also one of the best places in the world to watch sea turtles but they are hatching towards the end of the year...

The sea was turbulent and to go after a whale spotted in the distance, the boat was sometimes going very very fast, there were moments that the boat was bent nearly 90 degrees, lying sideways on the water surface.

My next photo will show how close a boat was to a whale...

Thanks Mariusz,

Your description of how the boat slopes seems terrifying to me.
In the US I might still consider that safe... but in Cape Verde...

Kind regards,
Paul
