Dear people,
I am searching for a semi-professional camera which isn't too expensive, but still makes great clear pics. Since you all have the most knowledge about these things, I am sure you could give me the best advice. Please suggest me a good camera!! Thanks a lot!! Ishya |

Ishya-
With George's silliness aside (you'll understand George once you've been here awhile, he's really just a harmless scalliwag) it may help to know what you consider not too expensive. Also, although the body is important, it's the lenses that truly make a larger difference. Let us know your budget. ~Vic~ |

"Harmless Scalliwag"....Oh Vic, don't write checks you're *ss can't cash.
To the OP-try the "bridge" cameras...The compacts that have manual features. If you can afford the SLR cameras, get one. Hi. Farah |

HI Ishya,
I agree (in the most hypocritical way possible) with George's intro .. that said .. here are my equipment geek sites when I look at such issues: in the most simple English but not the most detailed: http://www.dcresource.com/ and specifically to your question this page: http://www.dcresource.com/buyersguide/ the most detailed: http://www.dpreview.com/ on lenses and a few camera bodies a wide range of user reviews http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/ a rental place .. but with pretty (in my opinion) accurate comments on the items they stock: http://www.lensrentals.com/for-all try before you buy .. have fun ! It seems there is a slight difference of opinion as to the definition of "Scalliwag". I meant it in no other manner than the same as "rascal". If there was an assumed insult, it offer my most humble apologies.
George writes many amusing notes and posts here on TE. I hope to see that continue. ~V~ |

Hello,
Sorry to post so late. I still hope it helps. Canon has in my opinion the best semi-professional cameras in the market, much more solid than the nikons. I'm talking here about the canons 20D, 30D, 40D and 50D. The 20D was at the time a sensation, extremely easy to handle, with incredible features and image quality. I use a second hand 20D and never had a problem. It still is a incredible solid machine. Its 8,2 MP do the job pretty well. I would never go for the 12 MP canon 40D, though an excellent machine as well. If you would like to save some money, I would advise you to buy the 20D on ebay for 300€ or even less. A real bargain. If you would like something more modern than go for the 50D and its 15 MP, though MP are only part of the story. But if you can afford something like the 50D, than I would think about the superb canon 5D, which is more on the professional side than anything else. The only minor problem is that its amazing big sensor requires a better type of lens like the canon L series, which are extremely expensive. Better than a very good camera is a good lens. Don't make the mistake of buying low series lenses even if they are from canon. They just suck. You also have the compact canon IXUS series, which are very very good. Just take a look at that: http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/photo980456.htm Hope you find your camera. Take care Nuno |

Allow me, folks...
1. The photo, Nuno is pointing about - wasn't made by the camera ... It was made by one of the greatest photographers on the site - Catherine D. And, no camera in the world will change that statement. 2. Ishya... Have you consider a pair of rather expensive, comfortable shoes - first ? ...................... |
