during my last trip I had a discussion with a friend of tour because these marbles. he said they should be sent to greece, because they were stolen, etc..
of course most of ancient objects in museuns in europe would be lost if they had stayed in their homeland originally. the laws before 20th century weren't so nice to protect art. it is the same you say a historic personage of 16th should to use the laws of nowadays.
I liked this view of the classic frontage of the museum.

my church is modernist and was created in the 1970's and it was restored few days ago, most of the original details were lost, including the stained glasses, ceiling, the original pavement and even the modern statue of jesus was removed to another corner because the opinion of the new priest. I was able to see this in my life, I presume not protected art will be destroyed in any place. it is ever easier and cheaper to rebuild than to restore.
