I don't doubt that it happened, but the police don't actually have the legal powers in the UK to force anybody to delete images without a court order. That said, there's no way I'd argue the point in a foreign country even if I knew that to be the case. It would seem to be a case of a copper at best not knowing the law; at worst abuse of authority. The likelihood of anything being done - nil.

We live in a country where there is an increasingly fine line between compliance, standing up for your rights and the escalation of your response or reaction to an officer turning into a criminal offence ........we have some worrying trends going on here in the UK - things we have not really witnessed before ...or have known about for some time.
All hail the God of commercial and government surveillance and lets wipe out these carping photographers...................\\bw Kev |

The last paragraph says it all
A spokeswoman for Metropolitan police said: "It is not the police's intention to prevent tourists from taking photographs and we are looking to the allegations made." The force said it had no knowledge of any ban on photographing public transport in the capital. |

Could this - "Police delete London tourists photos to prevent terrorism" - be more pathetic? How idiotic can the human being still get? Great job. They just saved the day. Perhaps they should prohibit the selling of all sort of cameras. We lost track of the acceptable with all this tinny little laws that at the end enforce so little and only destroy common sense.
Have a great day... |

Yep seems the future of photography is in Asia, more friendly people, less paranoia.
I haven't been in the UK for 12 years, but this for sure is not inviting at all. |
