Photographer's Note
As I mentioned before, the sand dunes in the beautiful Deserto de Viana reach up to 50 meters. As much as there are of course higher dunes or mountains in the world, it is an incredible feeling when you stand next to a steep edge of a high dune. If you even subtly touch the sand edge, it slides down to the bottom. It is quite common for tourists to try sandboarding there. I am not sure how high was the dune which I am standing on in this photo, but because you can still see some sand pattern in the distant part of the image, I suppose a mathematician would be able to calculate the height by comparing the frequency of the sand waves at the top and at the bottom. You can get some idea about what is shown in this picture if you compare it with the bright area in my previous wider scene:
https://www.trekearth.com/gallery/photo1603639.htm
However, the dune became much steeper here in comparison to the bottom right fragment of the wider image. I will attach the same picture in natural colors as a workshop.
We were warned by the local guide to follow his exact trails while driving through the dunes. Just after we went to the top of this dune, we realized why it was important. The guide knew well where the edge of the dune is. We drove with a high speed to be able to climb the dune and then we had to make a sharp turn left and stop. If we would turn too late, we would jump off the very high dune, and I am not sure whether we would survive such a jump.

Ciao Mariusz, the two photos are beautiful, of course I prefer the color one but I appreciate your attempt to offer something original in the main gallery. You reminded me once again of the madness of drivers, even if here they are much more cautious than in other places, in Brazil or Jordan they are much more reckless. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Mariusz,
What a brilliant idea to show this in B&W. And setting main lines diagonally makes this quite dynamic. Grain of the foreground and dense wave patterns look wonderful. And what's in the middle gives a good idea of small sand avalanches down the edge of the dune.

like you I got many images of the textures and artworks created by the wind in the dunes. I had a day tour where the driver put the truck in almost 90 degrees in the dune and we almost had a heart attack, at the end of the day we knew about an accident with other tourists. lovely the two versions you posted.
take care

Hello Mariusz,
A great photo and the choice for black and white makes the view even more abstract. The lines in the sand and the smooth areas look great in this lighting as well.

Hello Mariusz,
If I didn't know that the photo was taken in Cape Verde, I would have bet on a snow or ice slope.
At first I thought the right upper part was sky, but on closer inspection I see the many ripples in the sand.
Wonderful somewhat abstract photo!
Sandboarding still seems somewhat attractive to me. I never did it.
In Nicaragua I saw volcano boarding. Not harmless. Falling at high speed on the volcanic rocks can cause severe cuts.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Mariusz, when I first saw this shot I had a strong feeling that it was tilted somewhat, so I was pleased to see that I was correct.
The middle section does look like snow rather than sand, but it is the rippled surface that we see in the foreground that informs us that it is indeed sand.
An abstract from nature.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Mariusz,
A simple compostion in B&W, but an attractive slope lines down from left to right.
Fine outcome of a dune picture.
Have a nice friday,
Ike
