Santa Monica Beach, a photo from Boa Vista, Barlavento

Photographer's Note

Santa Monica Beach stretches for over 11 km so it is hard to describe it in few words. It is a desolated expansion of the clean fine sand and shallow turquoise waters. Most of the time the photos from this beach show exactly that: perfect water and perfect sand. We made a longer stop there at the south east end of it which is marked by the Boca Beach Bar, which I will show you later. From this part of the beach, you can see some hills far on the horizon. It was our fourth and last stop on the jeep tour along the most beautiful beaches of Boa Vista.

Some sources say that the name refers to the famous Santa Monica Beach in California. Our guide didn抰 confirm it. I think in the local language the beach is also called Praia do Curralinho. I have a great sentiment to the Santa Monica in California because I lived for 2.5 years near it, frequently using for example Santa Monica public transportation (Big Blue Bus) which was going to the UCLA where I worked. Before I was able to afford a car, I spent almost each weekend in Santa Monica, which then sounded like a limitation and now after a while sounds like a dream.

It is not the most exciting to talk about money but from the Riu Touareg hotel this beach bar is just 16 minutes� drive and yet the taxi drivers asked for 25€ one way, which I thought was crazy. The half day tour which we took with Rotcha-Tours was 33€ per person and went through several beautiful spots.

The land along the whole beach (!) is already purchased by various hotel chains. We have seen a Hilton hotel being built along the way. Last chance to see it empty and unspoiled!

This doesn't look like Santa Monica in California. No people in sight and the water is an intense turquoise colour. No bg houses or condominiums in sight either. I think I prefer the Cape Verde version depicted here. Tfs!

the beach is really fabulous and I liked the way you used this stone in FG to dialogue with the beautiful rocky mountains ahead. excellent image. santa m鬾ica is a name could be in portuguese, but maybe the original name wasn't so chic, curralinho (little corral) is similar with a terrible phrase in portuguese too (lightly frayed ass), there is a small city in brazil with this name and many people from there, who are living in my town, avoid to say the name of their hometown. hahaha.

Desolation is quite obvious on this one. Even though there might have been a beach bar on the other direction. Huge beach and desert background look just great. And I like the beach line curving to the left.

Endless opportunities for such a beautiful beach pictures.
Water colors contrast the sand and rocks with the mountains on far side. Sure this would attract developers to gain on such a strip.
