Photographer's Note
Amun Ra (Re) became the most dominant Egyptian God over time together with Osiris, father of Horus, and evolved out of an earlier fusion of Min Amun. Typically he wears a double plume hat, carries an ankh, and a 'was', which is a stylized animal head at the top of a long, straight staff with a forked end. You cannot see the forked end here as it as been damaged. I also noticed quite a lot of graffiti on the lower, accessible parts of the image, which I did not notice when I took this. eg, 'Iris? Jollois AN7' 'MMA' 'Beck', 'Uhmel', 'Segato', and another indecipherable, European name, ending also in AN7.
Taken inside Medinet Habu, the Rameses III necropolis. The figure at left is Pharaoh Rameses III making offerings to Amun Ra. His face has been chiselled away by a later 'revisionist' Pharaoh. This was a common occurrence, especially with Akhnaton, the so called Heretic King, and Queen Hatshepsut, resented by her successor, Thutmose I.

Hi Chris,
I have never enough of the hieroglyphs and to pictures of the walls of Egyptian temples. Here you captured some blue color. The remaining colors were one of the reason I wanted to visit Medinet Habu. I think it is pity that you truncated the silhouette on the left as they seem to be making a scene here. Great sharpness and level of detail.

Hello Chris,
Even in these long gone days, there were obvious jealousies and tensions between family members!
These carvings are just amazing.
The faces may have been defaced but the hieroglyphs are still there, possibly explaining the figures.
Some new pyramids have been discovered near, I think, Sakkarah, with lots of wooden sarcophaguses.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Chris,
Beautiful upward view of those amazing and ancient stone carvings, which have survived all those many centuries. I like the warm hue and its contrast with the blue parts of the ceiling.

Hello Chris,
Interesting sculpture. Although the faces were chiselled away, like in many Egyptian temples at different times, here it is not disturbing. we can see the traces of the old paint - well visible blue on the ceiling but also the hands of the Pharaon. Also in Palmyra, the sculptures were painted. I suppose that these "graffiti" left by vandals are now also historical.
Best regards Malgo
