The Granite Sphinx, Cairo Museum. In the bg is another of those Egyptian jigsaw puzzles. Subsequent Pharaohs often dismantled or reused the wall tiles of prior Pharaohs to glorify themselves.

"This granite sphinx was one of several that once stood at Hatshepsut抯 mortuary temple. This remarkable woman ruled Egypt, first as co-regent for her nephew/stepson Thutmose III and subsequently as pharaoh."

The museum has since closed and exhibits have been moved to the new museum in Giza.

I am not sure if so many tourists have helped the image submitted by the above website.

Hello Chris,
That museum had one of the most fabulous collections I have ever seen, but it wasn't very well organized. Maybe there had been improvements since my visit in 1983. This is a great piece of ancient art and for once I appreciate that there are no other tourists seen here. This sphinx doesn't need any "help" to look interesting. The nice composition and good exposure was help enough.

Hello Chris,
Great photo of this wonderful and majestic sphinx in the museum. I like the background as well with those many bits of ancient art as well. The light was fine and added a nice play of shadows around the sphinx's body.

Very well lit sphinx and the puzzles make a nice background for it.
I had the pleasure to visit the museum but I don't think I took any photos there.

they used granite for eternity but the opponents were ever more hard to break the monuments. I like a lot such places, I can stay for ages walking in these big museums. I have no one near my home, the big ones are 600 or 1,000 km far .
