Photographer's Note
I’m not really a great fan of sunbathing but I do like to ‘people watch’ when I’m on the beach. This shot was taken on Anse Lazio, the weather had changed and a shower cut across the beach from the headland. I was sat under the shade (and then shelter of) the Casuarina and Takamaka trees when this young lady took shelter close by. I did wonder whether or not her choice of shelter had anything to do with our son whom she had been surreptitiously eyeing all day!

Hello Rosemary. Interesting! A photo with cult character. This black and white scene can be interpreted psychologically in many ways. I like the photo.

Hello Rosemary...
This is a fabulous image and well-presented in monochrome. You benefit from the highlight of the white bikini and the anachronistic tall-masted sailing ship. The strands of leaves from the tree look great against the gray sky.
I wonder -- and philosophies will vary on this issue -- were you tempted to clone out the two swimmers? Without them, the focus becomes very squarely on the other three figures -- the couple sitting together and the woman standing behind them. There is likely a short story to be written there; perhaps an entire novel!
But back to reality: I hope your son made a new friend this day!
Best regards,
Russ

hello rosemary ~
the subject matter, the composition, and the presentation in black & white all work together to give this image an appealing retro aspect. it could almost be a still from a film shot in the 60s, and i mean that in a very positive, nostalgic way.
the curtain of tree brings both backdrop and dimensionality to the shot.
all the main characters have their backs to us, and so we are left to imagine their faces and their thoughts. i like that.
nicely seen!

Hello dear Rosemary, how are you?
Very timely posting at this season, Rosemary.
Good idea to color in B&W, this paradox appraoch is very impressive on contrary. Sharp and clear image is already your trademark.
Thanks a lot and have a good weekend! Takero

Dear Rosemary
hehehehehe I love this. Mother Lionness protecting her baby - I bet your son had no clue, but mamma was onto it straight away! How interesting that you chose B&W/sepia. I think this has had the effect of making this into an artistic work. The image is well balanced with the yacht anchored in the shallows and the two swimmers on one side and then the headland on the other side. I'm with you: sunbaking bores me, but there's always something interesting to spot. Which is exactly what you did here, capturing a little mini-drama behind it all too.
Thanks for sharing, enjoy your weekend

Cette photo aurait été encore plus forte sans la présence de ce couple assis qui casse un peu ta belle composition noir et banc, mais ce n'est pas très facile de l'effacer!

Hello Rosemary,
Girls will be girls and boys will be boys:-) I like the use of black and white here; it sort of helps shape the story and sets the mood. Well composed with the boat nicely counterbalancing the girl.

Hi Rosemary
Great picture, timeless bl/w is the best choice here. It adds a bit of nostalgia to the scene. Good crop/composition too with the woman (with the perfect white bikini) at 1/3, the branch of the tree making a superb horizontal and the boat in the distance another great element. Superb shot. Tfs.

Hi Rosemary
I am impressed with the Sony Nex images you are presenting, obviously the little camera is proving to be a great purchase. This is a departure, theme wise, for you but I must say it is a magnificent and creative composition. It works so beautifully in B&W and has a romantic and arty feel about it. Original imagery that you have presented so imaginatively. Love it!
Enjoy your weekend - Brian.

Hello Rosemary
So this is your future daughter in law then ..
This is such a great composition, it could come straight out of a advert catalogue.
The three people are so well places within the frame, the branch of the tree leading us in to the beautiful sailing boat, all elements work so beautifully together and I simply love the black and white conversation here, it is perfect.
have a good weekend
Daniel
oh and as for beaches and sunbathing, if you put me on a beach it won't take two hours and I will path forth and back the beach like a wounded tiger, I simple get so bored at it.

Bonjour Rosemary
Tu ne peux pas empêcher la nature de suivre son cours. Elle avait quelque chose à montrer et ton fils ne regardait certainement pas ailleurs quand l'occasion se présentait. On ne sait jamais, elle te donnera peut-être des petits enfants.
Bon samedi

Hi Rosemary,
This is a brilliant people watching shot, and you captured a lot of great elements here. The young woman's body language is very interesting and she does look like she is watching the young couple in front. The tree creates a very interesting and soft frame for this scene. The old boat makes another very interesting element in the scene too and your choice of black and white is inspired. Excellent capture of this fleeting moment.
All the best

Ciao Rosemary
Ciao e buona domenica
Romano

Hello Rosemary
Nice view. I'll let you decide what I'm referring to! The monochrome treatment is unusual for such a scene, but as an old film buff I love it. The composition works well for me: the overlapping of the three bodies, cut across by the horizontal branch, and balanced by the swimmers and schooner anchored in the bay creates an interesting series of juxtapositions. I might have framed even tighter, removing some of the right-hand side of the frame, and losing a bit more of the girl's head. Cruel I know, but she needs to be incognito...

Ciao Rosemary,
even if one piece is missing in the frame, head ald leg, I really like the photo, explains very well the scene, the place looks very nice and the B & W is well done, I really like the mood and the exquisite details...
have a lovely sunday...

I love the stories you've told here, Rosemary - and I pluralize that because you've told two: one in your photo and the other in your note. There's a longing in the photo, and mystery, with the boat so far off shore, loaded with expectation. The figures watching it mirror the viewer well.
Sounds like there may have been some longing in the actual setting as well... did she ever actually approach your son (or vice versa?)

Hi Rosemary. The setting, the mood and the yacht remind me of a series from the early 60s from America, I think it was called Adventures in Paradise. I felt a sense of nostalgia seeing this photo.Nice POV and I do like the thin needles of the tree which provide a subtle curtain. Regards. Klaudio.

Ciao Rosemary
ma se il figlio non capisce, bisogna spiegare come funziona il "mondo"....
Ottima la scelta del b&w, sembra una foto degli anni 60,
la foto è ben composta ed equilibrata, molto belli i due rami che si protengono verso il mare.

Hello Rosemary
A lovely shot this, and a smart choice of b&w, like a scene from an old movie. Every elements very well placed in the scene to create a harmonic composition, and a fine story to accompany. Very nice work:)
