Photographer's Note
I just got back from 10 days camping trek around Huayhuash. ( 4 hours drive from Huaraz )
I was surprised to have little knowledge about this trek but then it took me by surprise to see spectacular landscape almost everyday.
It's tough,8 passes in 10 days, freezing nights inside the tent. But it's all worth it. Will try to upload more from the area.
The photo is all about Mitacocha lake and Jirishanca peaks. Taken in the morning and another photo hunter Birgit is in the picture, I can't help it but to take a picture with her in it. ( To ease some people, I had another picture without her in it )
Ps: I only just find a way to upload/basic editing from this new netbook. Although I had to convert to JPG first. Any suggestion in free software for my little netbook? Thank you

Hi Artesia,
Fantastic picture of this view: looks very much like our Himalayas! I like the inclusion of the human subject as well as the use of reflection in the misty ambiance. Excellent exposure: no details have been lost in the contrast...
Must have been an incredible trip! Please post more pictures...
To answer your question, I think the best free software would be gimp for your pictures and UFRAW for RAW conversion.
Hope that helps.
cheers,

Very nice capture of this beautiful scene. Good idea to include a person to give the photo some kind of perspective. Nice colors. Well done, tfs.

Jajajajaja, look who's here alive and posting !
Nice to get a postcard from you Artesia, we can see you're having fun in fantastic landscape, this wakes loads of envy burried deeply in me but since I go on holiday soon I will not let my rage out and instead contemplate this superb landscape, wow the snowy peaks and the reflection, love them, also the person introduces well to the composition even though she does not look too local. The upper part of the image could benefit from some more contrast, like using a grad grey filter.
Thanks for the postcard, and wish you further great times,
JY

Mia carissima amica,
questa è un'immagine bellissima, uno scenario di estrema bellezza con colori molto naturali e riflessi meravigliosi. Bellissimo l'inserimento della ragazza in FG. Un caro abbraccio.

Hello Artesia,
I never travelled in Peru but I am thinking about since a long time. This photo is really giving the wish to visit this place. A very strong landscape.
I like the curve of the clouds line just below the mountain tops.

Hello Artesia,
Although Birgit isn't the star of this photo, she certainly does a lot for the balance of the composition. The snow-clad peaks, the fog lying in a bow over the nearer hillsides and the reflections in the water are truly magnificent. And yet it could have been a bit flat without Birgit covering the foreground and providing life. I suppose you did her the same service afterwards;-)
Kind regards,
Gert

Artesia,
This is a fantastic capture. Use of a GND filter or some post processing would have darkened the sky and brought out the sky.
On a second note, I find a wonderful reflection of the mountains on the water without ripples, you had great chance to capture that

Hi Artesia,
Now this is simply gorgeous, what a view! This is really some stunning scenery, and you've done a magnificent job in capturing the essence and beauty of this setting. I like that you added some life to scene by placing someone else doing the same, it helps put the viewer into the moment. From what I've been able to see so far it looks as if you've had some fun travels. :) Great light and well balanced, this is a wonderful image. Thanks for sharing this beauty. Have a terrific week ahead.
All the best,
Jason
