Photographer's Note
‘Dhampus - Living with a view of the roof of the world’
All pictures were taken early in the morning in or nearby the village of Dhampus.
The guide during my three day trek thought it was strange that I wanted to take pictures in this village.
Dhampus is usually overlooked by the real sporty hikers who must have walked their number of hours every day and must have achieved their intended height difference at the end of the day.
They do spend the night in one of the many lodges of Dhampus on their way to their higher goal but in the old part of the village it is very quiet and the residents are amazed that someone comes there to take pictures.
I was told that the cereal in the field and that is harvested on the pictures in the WS is millet.
According to Wikipedia millets are a group of highly variable small-seeded grasses, widely grown around the world as cereal crops or grains for fodder and human food.

Hi Paul
The houses are really charming and the view truly picturesque, especially so because you took the photo of the village when it was bathed in lovely light.
I also sometimes find it strange that people seem not to notice this kind of beauty, hell-bent on bagging the same shots they have seen on Instagram before their trip.
I love the daily life WS shots too.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello Paul,
All three photos are quite beautiful and very nice composed, but the main one tells us most about the living conditions and everyday life in this area. The white peaks provide a spectacular background, but the buildings all look very nice, especially in this fine light. I remember Nepalese towns and villages as frequently rather dirty, but this looks rather tidy, at least from this distance. Maybe their incomes have risen, thanks to tourism, and helped them to a better standard. Regarding millet I have mainly, knowingly, tasted it in parts of Africa. I didn't know that maybe I had also eaten it in Nepal.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Paul,
You had a real instinct to stop and take this photograph. It may not have appeared a suitable photograph to your guide but you knew better.
The houses are delightful, with their long verandahs, bathed in the morning sunlight and with a backdrop that is truly amazing! It really is a most picturesque shot!
Are those fruits ripening on the verandah roof?
The w/s are interesting too, no matter how slyly taken!
Superb memories from a Nepalese adventure!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hallo Paul,

Goede presentatie, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost Vlaanderen,
John.

Hallo Paul, that mountain village has a lot of charm. The buildings look community houses that can receive big families and relatives. Pumpkins and corn are drying in the sun. The courtyard is clean and offers a breathtaking view of the Machapuchare on the left and the Annapurna peaks on the right. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

A wonderful scene.
The light is beautiful throughout the picture, from the mountain tops to the immediate foreground.

Hi Paul,
great combination of some simple and yet stylish and unique in design houses, with the spectacular mountain panorama in the distance.
Amazing sight, it must have been a great adventure.
I bet you have a lot of photos to go through from this trip, enough to keep you busy in the times of pandemics.
So probably you don't even feel a need to go out there.

very nice view of these traditional houses and their special architecture. I presume the peak ahead is the famous everest. curious the slabs of rock like tiles in the roof and the corn and other food outside of the houses. nice the views of WS too.

Hello Paul,
This town is definitely worth photographing. it's so colorful and charming. I like the architecture, and the way things are stored on the second level outside the windows. I hope you're doing well. Take care!

Hello Paul.
What a beautiful view of this town so homogeneous in its constructions, all the facades with porches and slate roofs, in the background the highest chain of mountains in the world.
A nice color that enhances the image.
Very good selection for both the brightness and the sharpness of the photo.
Well seen and done. I like it.
Have a great day. All the best.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Paul,
By reading your Nepalese trekking notes you finally came to a place where you could admire the panorama of Himalaya. Your photo also includes interesting local architecture where they use flat stones for walls and as shingles of the roofs.
Well done photo as well as colors, light and sharpness.
Best regards,
Zbigniew

Hi Paul
i'm jealous. I'd love to stay here. and its always funny to hear how locals can't see the same photographic potential as we do. I guess when you live here the views or subjects become mundane and not so special. again, wow, look at that view, and I love the long run of buildings, not only the mountain tops. great shot! cheers
