New Flemish pictures

I wish every visitor a nice day, I hope you like it.

These picture has been taken during a visit to Ghent yesterday afternoon a Flemish city in Belgium with different lovely waterways.

History;

The history of Ghent has water always played a decisive role. Gent was born in the place where the Lys and the Scheldt merge (east of the present ruins of the St. Bavo's Abbey). Ganda, or Ghent also means nothing but 'mouth' or 'confluence'. This convenient location has attracted people since prehistoric times. Archaeologists have found numerous traces of human activity from the stone and the iron age. In the first centuries of our era, during the domination of the Romans, was a rather important town on the high sandy ridge in place of Lys and Scheldt estuary. Further along the Scheldt, was a Roman villa that Blandinium or Blandijn was called. Scheldt, was a Roman villa that Blandinium or Blandijn was called.
The large-Germanic invasions of 406/407 meant the end of the Roman occupation. In the valleys of the Lys and Scheldt were now Germanic people's attention.

this is a lovely picture. the scene is beautifully coloured with each building displaying their own colouful tones. the boat in the foreground really stands out, and its perspective along with the positioning of the houses is superb. the sun has lit up the picture very nicely and creates lovely atmosphere.

The diagonal line of the river is an asset to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the boats and of the architecture of the houses. The afternoon light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Ik denk dat ik deze kade in Gent nog niet ken.
De foto is heel helder en met een prachtig licht genomen. Gisteren was het hier bij ons echter niet zo'n mooi weer.
Goede compositie met de diagonale lijnen van de schepen en de kade. De kleurrijke facades zorgen voor een aangename sfeer en een mooi contrast met de blauwe lucht.

Mijn voorgangers zeiden het al - fijne kleuren en fraai licht op deze Gentse plaat! De spullen op het dek van de aak geven aan dat Gent ook een werkstad is en de strakke geometrie van de ramen in de gevels geeft een mooi grafisch effect. Fijn werk, John!

Hello John,

You're capturing well this waterfront by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it' ipressive to see the calm building group with colorful wall which stand in a row on the riverbank. It's impressive in the huge cargo boat which is at anchor to the river, too. And, the slight sahdow projected to the river draws out an additional good effect in this image.

I kept coming back to look at this shot looking for that "something" that makes it special and finally found it! It is that sense of stillness and quiet, as not a soul can be seen. Reading through its history this must be a busy place. This contrast must have made this scene pop out and rendered the necessary excitement for the viewer. Well done!!!

Enjoy this high quality shot as always, the multi colors are real treat to the eyes and a well balanced river scene. Great view point and love the closeness to nearest barge rendering such good impact while the eye is taken smoothly along diagonally into the far end eccentuating the depth. it really is very impressive and so much amounts of details to look at. Bij het zien van deze foto heb je als kijker
een klein beetje het idee dat het gemaakt is
in een warm land ala Itali� (en geeft tevens
aan dat Belgi� veel meer te bieden heeft dan
men denkt) .
De foto is heel mooi belicht, heeft een mooie

Hi John,

Great perspective, the entire image feels like it's reaching out. I really like how the boat seems to stretch along the canal and forms a solid base against the buildings. Although basically hidden from view, it's a neat aspect that some of the sunlight has peeked through to highlight some of the sides and partial sections of the buildings. Very nicely exposed to show detail and clarity. Beautiful image!
