Photographer's Note
The Alexander Archipelago is a series of islands which sprawl along the northern west coast of British Columbia and make up the southern panhandle of Alaska. These islands, protected by their masses from the open Pacific Ocean, disrupt the swirling weather which forms in the Gulf of Alaska and cause it to dump an average of thirteen feet of rain a year on this temperate rainforest. As a result, our world is lush and green, and our feet are usually wet.

Hi Juddy,
This dramatic shot shows very well that the region must be wet.
I like very much the water with that silver line.
Greetings,
Francisco

Hi Judy,
Many thanks for your visit and kind comments. It's a real pleasure to discover your pictures - Alaska must be a paradise for nature and landscape photographers and is high up on my wish-list. This one is very striking due to the sensation of wide open space, the dramatic play of light and shadow and the sparsity of colour, almost monochrome apart from hint of golden light in those rays. I particularly like the play of light on the water (I wonder in fact whether you might have included a little more sea in the foreground) and of course that line of light separating the water from the land is so important.
Regards,
John

Hi Judy,
An amazing atmospheric turbulence well depictited in your capture.
All sorts of clouds covering the mountainscape and traces of rain everywhere.
A glorious lighting is adorning the scene!
Great job you're presenting!
Well done, Judy.

Hello Judy,
You have captured here the magical light and atmosphere in a skilful way. The play of lights and shadows is lovely. You have controlled the exposure perfectly and the depth is excellent. The silver line separating the sea and the land is a beautiful detail. Well done!
Greetings from now chilly and rainy Espoo - which already had a short heat wave in the weekend.

Hi Judy,
Bad weather, not the perfect Alaska promotion.
What about Mount McKinley in all his glory, bathing in sunlight? ;-)
But, bad weather can also have it's charme when there are patches of light are sitting inside which can make a landscape interesting to look at.
Those rays of sunlight what shine through the clouds look great, just as those bright clouds down below and the bright reflection in the water. A difficult picture, but it has a certain mood inside that i can appreciate...very nice.
Regards,
Henk

Judy,
Without your shot I would had not known that there is rain forest in the U.S. Possibly I should better read some geography books about the U.S. Thanks for explaining and sharing.
What makes your dramatic shot even more special is the sun rays which try to beak through the clouds like a symbol that after the rain the sun will be back.
Best regards
Urs

Hi Judy,
Even though the green plantlife is not visible, your dramatic monochrome image is nicely composed.

Hi Judy
Living in Ireland I can say relate to the wet feet and the rain dumps :) here thpugh it is very rare to get a scene as remarkable and beautiful as this, the play of light and heavy cloud is magnificent. Very cool photo.
