Photographer's Note

This is one of my archival photos taken in April 2004 on Maui, Hawaii. It is a scan from print.
It reminds me one of my favourite stories by Anthony de Mello:

The Contented Fisherman
The rich industrialist from the North was horrified to find the Southern fisherman lying lazily beside his boat, smoking a pipe.
"Why aren't you out fishing?" said the industrialist.
"Because I have caught enough fish for the day," said the fisherman.
"Why don't you catch some more?"
"What would I do with it?"
"You could earn more money" was the reply. "With that you could have a motor fixed to your boat and go into deeper waters and catch more fish.
"Then you would make enough to buy nylon nets. These would bring you more fish and more money. Soon you would have enough money to own two boats . . . maybe even a fleet of boats. The you would be a rich man like me."
"What would I do then?"
"The you could really enjoy life."
"What do you think I am doing right now?"

The story is so true. However I would like to send the camera which I can afford now to myself 10 years ago :)

la palma � da sempre considerato l'albero dell'ozio, della pace e della tranquillit�.
Se poi la anteponi al mare, e ci metti sotto una coppia il gioco � fatto!
La composizione � bella e solare. Complimenti.

This is a very nice image with peaceful atmosphere. The lonely lady looks like she is enjoying this solitude. The tree makes this more interesting. Nice color contracts .

cześć Mariusz, Jak chodzi łam na niemiecki w Kolonii, to kiedys omawialismy tę historyjke. Tekst byl troche dłuższy i po niemiecku, ale treść ta sama. Prawdziwe. Tyle że miejscowi na cudownej plażali Ngapali beach nie cieszą sie zyciem w ten spos骲. Zaczynaja prace przed wschodem słońca, a konczą po zachodzie, 7 dni w tygodniu. Nie widziałam, zeby ktokolwiek choc chwile wypoczywał.
chciałabym sobie usiąść na troche kolo tej dziewczyny i popatrzeć na ocean...

Witaj Mariusz,
rzeczywiscie mozne podziwiac i odpoczywac w pieknym miejscu pod palma. Uwielbiam widok morza, szum fal, lekki podmuch witru. Zaraz wyobraznia pracuje. Sliczna pocztowka z nad morza. Kolorystyka, punkt widzenia, swiatlo, jakosc zdjecia sa doskonale. Patrzac na to zdjecie to az sie chce wakacji. Podoba mi sie bardzo.

Your note is wonderful - what a lovely little story and one which we should often recall - it seems just so fitting in our modern-day materialistic society.

And a very fitting photograph too. And also a photograph of excellent quality considering that it has been scanned from a colour print. Lovely lighting and colours and excellent yet simple composition.

Reading the story of the Contented Fisherman, it really rings home, i totally get the message he's sending.
I find that this photo is more about that story, that meaning, something that we usually see from Lisa :)

Every once in awhile its refreshing to reflect.

Witaj Mariusz,
a really carefree snapshot for the woman who sitting on the sandy beach under the palm tree seeing the endless seascape view.
The off center placement of the palm tree in the frame,would did the image more effective.

Czesc,
tylko pozazdroscic, Hawaje odwiedziles. Ladny plazowy widok. Samotna palma i samotna kobieta patrzaca w dal. Romantyczne to troche. Te resztki innego drzewa troche zaklocaja harmonie kompozycji.

Hi Mariusz,
always it is interesting to see former photos recovered of our files, as in this case, with this scanned capture that still keeps a good quality.
I like the composition with the palm in the middle of the framing, and the woman sat on the sand, while she enjoy the Sun and the deserted beach.
It is a very suggestive and attractive image.

Apparently not so long ago it was, that we all use to take photos with film and print on paper, just less than 8 years passed...

Hi M,

Beautiful and nostalgic image. The scan quality is good. I like the grain from the film image, it really give that sense of olden days. I love the peaceful and solitary mood you have capture with the the lone palm tree and lone person.

The palm tree is sending my eyes toward the horizon which is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the activities on the beach. The lady enjoy the view.

Dear Mariusz

As a new Daddy, I can imagine your opportunities to take new photos would be limited at the moment! But what joy! Anyway, to your photo, it has a great quality especially given its age. I like the vertical frame and the good colours. It's a nice scene, that sand and sea very inviting as we here start our Winter.

Hello Mariusz,

I understand exactly what you mean about having the camera long ago. I have just visited a place that I photographed 6 years ago, when I had a much inferior camera. I will be interested to compare the results - although, they always say, it is the photographer that makes the difference rather than the camera. We will see!
This is the personification of peace and contentment. What more relaxing way to spend your time, the warm sun, a protectective tree, the soft sand, a book and the gentlt lapping of the tide.
