Photographer's Note
I am back home from Romania. It was a great trip. 3500 km driven, wonderful monuments, breathtaking landscapes. The most beautiful were absolutely unique painted monasteries from Suceava region. How to show them, it is a problem. In the photo of a whole object one cannot see the details of the paintings. When it is a detailed view - then no idea how it looks in reality. Here something in between. The beautiful windows of the monastery in Moldovita and some of the frescoes.
Moldovita Monastery dates back to 1532 and is due to prince Petru Rares (1532-1546)*. It has the aspect of a fortress, with imposing towers and high, thick walls (6 m high, 1.2 m wide). The the church has a three-cusped plan, as well as an open porch. The frescoes on its interior and exterior walls are due to Toma of Suceava and were painted in 1537.
Moldovita’s frescoes along with the ones at Voronet, have best preserved their colours which are astonishingly fresh and vivid.

Hello Malgorzata,
This close-up is so much nicer than the previous, "impossible" photo with the harsh contrasts. I guess this time you also had a chance to give the photo a proper PP. I am really sorry I didn't have time to see this, but I will have to satisfy myself with watching your photos.
I like the inclusion of the flowers at the bottom.
How's your leg?
Regards,
Gert

Hello Malgorzata, This a really lovely wall of this monastary. The colors are wonderful and the flowers in the foreground almost appear as part of the structure. Good Job. Amazing the fine detail and workmanship presented in the facades here. And done so long ago. I looked up this place and it was apparently part of an area called Bucovina. I really didn't know where that was, but in late forties there was a never ending stream of Displaced Persons, DPs entering Austria near Linz. We soldiers would be sent to the DP camps and they were awakened in the middle of the night so we could make a count of the increase in their presence. Regards, Have a nice week. Roger

Hello Malgorzata. I simply have no idea how long it could have possibly taken to have this painted on this wall. Your choice to include the window frames and flowers was a good idea. Of all the things there are to discover in this world, and of all there is to see from the work of mans hands in the art of creative work! Excellent work.

Really beautiful and interesting mural paintings, I guess it must have taken some time to study and contemplate all of them. As seen here, there is a fine pattern and wonderful colours. Definitely a very different picture!

Wow what a beautiful painting, it still looks fine, despite the sunlight, that really is a very unique monastery. Congrats Malgorzata, that is an excellent documentary shot. Also your note is very well researched. Good photo job. Thanks for your critique of my Ganesha shot. Yes, we have 3 or 4 Ganesha in our Bangkok home, here in Alor Star we are without.
Best regards
Urs

Ces fresques extérieures sont étonnantes et intéressantes. Tu as quand même bien maitrisé les différences de lumière sur la façade.

Ciao Malgorzata,
I did not know anything of Romania, and your last shots are really appreciated and so the accompanying notes. These frescos on the external walls are quite interesting and colourful, considering that they are 5 centuries old!
Have a nice week, Dario.
