Photographer's Note
Forty meters below the characteristic and lively streets of the Historic Center of Naples, you find a different world, unexplored, isolated by time, but deeply connected with the world above. It’s the heart of Naples, and the place from which the city was born. To visit it is to travel to the past, a world 2400 years old.Every historic epic, from the foundation of Neopolis, to the bombs of WWII, has left it’s mark on the walls of the yellow tufa stone, the soul of Naples, and the stone with which the city was built. In this pic you can see the main alley with a lot of interesting corners on the left and right like old shops and houses.
NAPOLI SOTTERRANEA

Hello Luciano,
The man in the distance can be an alternative title for this beautiful picture. The light-fall in the different parts after each gate is fascinating. But the man at the end of the corridor makes the scene.

Hello Luciano,
It's an unusual and quite exciting composition. The several grey vaults create a superb depth and of course the dark man at the end means almost everything to the composition. Did you know him, otherwise it could have been scary to meet him suddenly? ;-) The walls have a beautifully captured texture and you handled the light perfectly.
Best regards,

Hello Luciano,
A part of Naples I am was totally unaware of. I like the point of view looking through the receding arches. Very good management of the low light and excellent rendering of the textural detail. Together with the interesting note, a fine contribution to TE.

Ciao caro Luciano,
This is extraordinary!
Forty metres below the city!
You are right, a trip into the past!
I love your viewpoint, using the repeating arches so effectively to give depth and perspective. There is plenty of time to absorb the patterns and textures on the walls and arches, whilst the lone figure supplies a terminal focal point.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Ciao Luciano,
Complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti e buona serata,

Salut Luciano,
Nice repetition of the concentric arches that interlock like a set of Russian dolls. The idea is not new, with Egyptian sarcophagi also using the same design. Anyway the man makes a fine focal point near the vanishing point. Tfs!

Ciao caro Luciano,
Again you have written a fascinating note and presented us with a beautifully composed photograph to complement it.
The gentleman at the far end of this row of arches holds the composition together superbly well while the soft light from above brings out all the details and textures of the ancient stonework beautifully.
Lovely light, fine subdued colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,

Excellent underground photo, well lit and with fine depth, and the lone figure standing under the far side arch added good scale and life to the place.
Immaculate and distinct clear details collected.

Ciao Robert
