Photographer's Note

The Square du Temple (Temple Square) is a garden in Paris in the 3rd arrondissement. It was opened in 1857 or 1865 depending on the source. Its covers an area of 7,700 square metres.

It is one of 24 squares arranged in Paris during the works carried out by Haussmann under Napoleon III. The squares were designed and laid out by Jean-Charles Alphand, director of public roads and walks of the City of Paris.

Marking the northern boundary of the Marais district, the square is bordered by the rue de Bretagne to the south, rue Eug鑞e Spuller to the east, rue Perr閑 to the north and rue du Temple to the west.

Like the neighbouring building the Carreau du Temple, the square occupies a part of the old enclosure of the Templars, and partially overlaps the location of the now disappeared tower of the Temple.

The large elegant building seen in the background of this picture is the Mairie (Town Hall) of the 3rd arrondissement.

Ha! Ha! Stephen, I had to research ' arrondissement' before I critiqued your photograph!

This is lovely. The naked trees surround the building and seem to provide a framework for the Marie and its pool. I can't think of many English Town Halls in such a pretty setting.
The light is lovely and seems quite strong for early spring.

Hello Stephen,
very picturesque town hall which looks more like a palace to me - not bad place to go to work every day ;-) The pool in foreground makes it even more picturesque and loads of trees add life and provide good framing. I can just imagine how this place looks like when the trees have leaves.
Very nice and classic composition, properly saturated colors and ideal sharpness.

Hello Stephen - Paris is a city of grand, spacious avenues and parks and here your shot highlights the open feel very successfully.

Judging by the number of people enjoying the sunshine on an early spring day Cole Porter was not the only one who loved(s) Paris in the springtime.

I do enjoy the shapes of the winter trees not only as a good frame but also as a source of interest in the mid ground.

Bright sunny day, brought many people out to the park and all benchs seem to be occupied.
The pond in the middle, the naked branchs above, and the impressive Mairie edifice beyond, filled beautifully all of pic. space.
