For King Giorgio & His Knights, a photo from Rome, Lazio

Photographer's Note

ENGLISH: Yeah I know, every man and his dog has a shot like this once they've been to Rome. But I couldn't resist, how could anyone? This photo was taken after a day spent with some of our TE friends in Rome: King George (Clementi), Silvio1953 who travelled all the way from his beautiful green Umbria, Roberto (Bebbetto), Salvo and Vinicio. It also happened to be Giorgio's birthday, so this is also a belated birthday present. In the photo you can see the dome of St Peter's, the Castel Sant'Angelo aswell as the Tiber River.

ITALIANO: S�, lo so, ogni uomo e il suo cane ha un colpo come questo una volta che sono stato a Roma. Ma non ho potuto resistere, come potrebbe qualcuno? Questa foto � stata scattata dopo una giornata trascorsa con alcuni nostri amici DI TE a Roma: Il Re di Roma (Clementi), Silvio1953 che ha viaggiato dal suo bel verde Umbria, Roberto (Bebbetto), Salvo e Vinicio. E 'anche capitato di essere il compleanno di Giorgio, quindi questo � anche un regalo di compleanno tardivo. Nella foto potete vedere la cupola di San Pietro, il Castello Sant'Angelo ed il fiume Tevere.

Hello You,
It's a very beautiful sight, the gold of the lights on the buildings against the black of the sky, the reflection in the river is superb.
Perfect cropping, there isn't anything on the outside of the frame that doesn't have the right amount of space.
Surprised you got this so sharp considering the amount of vino consumed at the dinner for Giorgio :))

I particularly like the way the reflected lights sweep their way around the frame in this classically framed composition. The shot is perfectly exposed as with all your night shots; I assume you must carry a tripod with you wherever you go:-)

come hai detto nella tua foto della Cattedrale di Palermo, andare in Sicilia e non vedere Palermo � come andare a Roma e non vedere il Vaticano.

Il Vaticano � una tappa obbligatoria per chi va a Roma e quindi hai fatto bene ad andarci, permettendo a tutti noi di ammirare questo bel night shot sul Tevere con la Cupola di San Pietro a dominare su tutta la scena.

Belli i riflessi sull'acqua del fiume.

Ti auguro una buonanotte se ancora ci sei su TE.

Greetings Lisa,

I am soon going to be applying for your masterclasses in long-exposure. I want to be able to do this too. At least I finally now have a remote shutter release so that I can start practising a bit.

Really beautiful - and in my experience an original and fresh view of Rome. The long exposure does some wonderful stuff to the reflections - giving an even more impressionistic tone than is often there.

To perhaps start a discussion on your background :I am not sure where I actually stand. Part of me is wondering whether you should ramp up the contrast and go for a sky that is the same rich, velvet black as the foreground in the bottom right, another part of me wants you to keep the delicate blues, which help to highlight the more shadowy, second level of buildings behind the main, lit-up featured buildings. I suspect there might be two or more eqaully fabulous photographs in this shot.

nice nocturne shot of this part of Rome with the St Peter's dome and the Sant'Angelo's castle to be captured perfect.I like the reflections on the surface of the Tiber river as the great atmosphere that created.I think that everybody see the same thing with his specific eye and never mind how many have captured the same scene before.

scatto classico ma sempre suggestivo, uno dei punti pi� affascinanti di Roma...Bellissima la "notturna" piena di luci e di riflessi. Mi sarebbe piaciuto un sacco essere con voi a Roma!

So why is the photo so dark? were you guys out drinking so late and partying that you forgot about the sun? this is a family type website...gotta keep it clean here, i'll leave it at that!

I agree with Jeppo...who cares..if i ever make it to Italy, this scene is on my top 5 list! so there!! i'm gonna get it too!
the arches are beautiful arent they?! look at all those reflections too, the dark sky helped to create the natural contrast you're looking for, for the illuminated lights. Funny to see this place without any people walking by too!

I'm having a great deal of difficulty with TE on my laptop. its not allowing me to look at peoples photos at their gallery. So i have to "hunt" for photo in the Critique list...its the only way they pop up for me. don't know whats going on...thats why i havn't critiqued much the past 2 days. hope it will clear up soon as i need my TE fix

Very beautiful composition and splendid atmospheric image of these well illuminated buildings with the dome
of St. Peter's on top.
The arches of the bridge and their reflections in the dark Tiber look wonderful.
I've visited Rome once and I don't have a shot like this. The reason is that I was there without camera :)

Classic POV, I have one just like it taken during the day though. I like the glow of the light that illuminated the surrounding in soft folden tone. Perfect compo, great exposure for a moody night shot. Once again a fantastic place and great technical quality photo.

Hi Lisa,
this is one of my favorite views from Rome and of course I took same shot there as well. I did it however in a pre-digital era and although I made a large print of it 50x75cm and it was perfect, now the negative got old and the quality cannot compare with the digital photos anymore.
It looks fabulous at night. I took it at night too. What I regret really is that I did not take it at the blue hour. But of course traveling you cannot be at the blue hour everywhere...
Still I am so jealous. The view itself is just breathtaking and you collected it masterfully. I like the star shaped lights.

I envy you that dayspent in Rome with our dear friends Giorgio, Silvio, Salvo and Vinicio. It must have been a wonderful experience, with their knpowledge of Rome and photography. It such a pity that Giorgio is no more active here on TE and did not see this birthday gift. I am not so sure that every man and his dog has a shot like this one. I haven't, for instance :). What an amazing sharpness and colours! Fantastic composition.

Banal or not, the night scenery is fabulous, every one would have done the same... "man and dog"...
Masterpiece of a night reflection, with no excessive bulb's-glare, mild tones collected, and a fine noise reduction.
