The door to the sea, a photo from Foggia, Apulia

Photographer's Note

Today will reclaim this photo that I posted two weeks ago, but that had been eliminated perhaps for a small logo on the frame, just maybe because no director has ever motivated it or responded to my request for clarification.
This port is located at the end of the long staircase that leads to the old town and the church on the island of St. Nicholas, the most rich in architectural attractions of the small archipelago of Tremiti.
The Island of St. Nicholas has always had in the past a very important role and still constitutes ii old town, the administrative of the Tremiti. The name is derived from St. Nicholas to a hermit who here would build a chapel in honor of the Holy Mariner. A few hundred meters separate it from San Domino, from Cretaccio and Caprara. The island has an elongated shape with steep cliffs and rugged coastline defended by large rocks. The western part is occupied by civil construction, towers, castles and ancient walls. End of the island there is the Marina, a small port with a complex system of fortifications. On the top there is the picturesque town and the Abbey of Santa Maria a Mare.

LA PORTA VERSO IL MARE

Oggi ripropongo questa foto che avevo postato 2 settimane fa, ma che era stata eliminata forse per un piccolo logo sulla cornice, dico forse perche nessun amministratore ha mai motivato la cosa o risposto alla mia richiesta di chiarimenti.
Questa porta si trova al termine della lunghissima scalinata che porta alla citta vecchia ed alla chiesa dell'isola di San Nicola, la piu ricca di attrazioni architettoniche del piccolo arcipelago delle Tremiti.
L'Isola di San Nicola ha sempre avuto in passato un ruolo di notevole importanza e tuttora costituisce ii centro storico, amministrativo dell'arcipelago delle Tremiti. Il nome San Nicola deriva da quello di un eremita che qui avrebbe costruito una cappella in onore del Santo Marinaio. Poche centinaia di metri la separano da San Domino, dal Cretaccio e da Caprara. L'isola ha una forma allungata con pareti a picco e costa frastagliata difesa da grossi scogli. La parte occidentale � occupata da costruzioni civili, da torri, castelli e antiche mura. All'estremit� dell'isola vi � la Marina, un piccolo porticciolo dotato di un complesso sistema di fortificazioni. Sulla sommit� sorge il pittoresco abitato e l'Abbazia di S. Maria a Mare.

Ciao Luciano. Un'immagine che promette tutti i piaceri di un'estate mediterranea. I vecchi muri di pietra e i percorsi di pietra parlano di antichit� e di abitazione senza interruzioni. I gerani raccontano di orgoglio e di cura da parte degli abitanti, il mare blu ci ricorda della nostra giovinezza e giorni di abbandono e divertimento. L'isola sta per l'avventura, il miraggio dell'ignoto che ha motivato gli italiani di risolvere attraverso gli oceani. E la sedia di plastica rossa aspetta quando arriva il visitatore per una chiacchierata.

i'm always a big fan of these peek-a-boo photos.
Personally i tend to stay away from taking them though, as lighting and shadows can be difficult.

great job though, wonderful textures, wonderul splash of blue to contrast all that brown. I want to sit in that orange chair and just enjoy the view :)

Nice use of the fg stone arch as a framing device. The muted monochrome beige colors of the fg contrast starkly with the bright red and blue bg. The green forested headland adds depth. Tfs!

The old stone gateway makes a delightful natural frame for the prettily illuminated scene beyond. I like very much the colours and clarity. Excellent rendering of the foreground textural detail. It is unfortunate that your original posting ran foul of the site administrators who seem to inhabit a world of their own.

I am quite surprised to her that this photo has been removed. I don't see any reason.
May be it has too high quality for recent TE standards? I still fit in but this is quite an impressive picture. Great depth of the field. The view behind the door is so beautiful, so crispy sharp and colorful. The framing with the doorway and all its elements is really pretty. Fantastic idea and perfect realization.

You have written a fascinating and informative note and shown us a beautiful photograph to accompany it.

I love how you have framed the distant view in the old doorway and how even the door and its stone surround is nicely lit - you have somehow managed to control the light here superbly well despite not resorting to the use of flash.

What I really love about your composition is the perfect placing of that little empty chair which invites us to walk through the doorway and have a seat to enjoy the view - a perfect lead-in to a lovely image.

Gorgeous light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

La porta verso il mondo. Functiona perfettamente come un cornice. La foto e una foto di "benessere". Che posto! Technicamente molto ben fatto coi colori favolosi. La sedia mi chiama: "Vieni a sederti! Godati la vita." Non sono securo se l'hai fatto a posto, ma mi sembra di recivere questo messaggio.

A marvelous outcome on the picture taken through the ancient built door, with a fantastic view out to sea.
Blue and green in fine contrast to the light-brown stone bricks, a well composed scene. Wooden chair is a nice bonus to the whole.

A beautifully clear and crisp shot, Luciano - very well done. 'Landscape through the doorway' is one of my favourite themes, when correctly done, like here, it simultaneously allows close up viewing of architectural details and the receding views of the coastline. Nicely balanced light and colours.
Pity about the rubbish in the bottom left corner, but real life's never totally perfect is it?

La chiase rouge vermillon attire mon attention dans cette ambience chromatique. La pierre seduisante jusqu'a la mer fait la photo aussi. Ton regard a travers le trou invite nous a sauter dans l'eau.

The doorway, a frame accentuating the sea is so refreshing and inviting... it could be anywhere along thousands of kilometers on the coast of Italy, but it is in Apulia, which I have not visited in person.
