Historic Centre of S鉶 Lu韘, a photo from Maranhao, Northeast

Photographer's Note

This is one of the streets of the Historic Centre of S鉶 Lu韘, Maranh鉶.

The late 17th-century core of this historic town, founded by the French and occupied by the Dutch before coming under Portuguese rule, has preserved the original rectangular street plan in its entirety. Thanks to a period of economic stagnation in the early 20th century, an exceptional number of fine historic buildings have survived, making this an outstanding example of an Iberian colonial town.

Considering it's an Unesco World Heritage site and one of the largest historic centres of Brasil, I found the conditions of the buildings quite bad and they need immediate attention and better treatment. I don't know if there is a program for revitalization...I hope so!

The POV well selected and the two alignments of houses give a greta depht to the image and learn the glance to the end of the prospect. Very good managment of light too with beautiful contrasts light Vs sahde well collected. I like too the detials of the architecur very well collected. An excellent photowork under a beautiful impressive sky.

tamb閙 achei bem degradado esse centro hist髍ico de S鉶 Lu韘, tenho at� algumas fotos que vou colocar aqui como protesto. Mas acho que isso tudo � fruto da exemplar administra玢o pol韙ica na Sarneylandia mesmo... uma pena. Gostei da perspectiva aqui e at� nem apreceu t鉶 degradado assim na foto.

Hello Carlos,

Indeed some work is necessary here to give again all its splendour with this historical street, moreover I see that the vegetation colonizes the roofs. I hope that this recognition of UNESCO will support the rehabilitation of this district. A beautiful photograph where the light and this pretty sky make it possible to give much relief to the image. Hi Carlos,
The old Portuguese architecture is very well kept there, if you compare with here in Goa! The vertical framing is a correct choice, light is well controlled with both shade and sunny areas well exposed.

A good choice of vertical format to discover that charming street and its old houses which I found to be quite well maintained. The light/shades together with the menacing sky created an attractive atmosphere in that quiet historic center. A fine perspective too!

What a clear and bright photo! The perspective effect created by this narrow street is very realistic and appealing: one almost feel to be walking there! And the light is splendid, illuminating this simple but intersting architecture. Actually it looks like an Italian small town. The colours of the houses are very sweet contrasting with the dark sky. A composition I like very much. Surely an excellent work.

Linda composi玢o nas ruas da velha S鉶 Luis. Os sobrados t韕icos, com as sacadas de ferro trabalhado, tudo parece belo nesta imagem, embora voc� fa鏰 refer阯cia ao mau estado dos pr閐ios tombados. Pr閐ios mal conservados, em r醦ido processo de degrada玢o foi o que eu vi h� mais de dez anos, quando estive na cidade. Excelente uso do PP, que, com certeza, deu mais brilho � cidade.
