Photographer's Note

Syros stands on a naturally amphitheatrical site, with neo-classical buildings, old mansions and white houses cascading down to the harbour. The City Hall, where Miaoulis Square lies ringed with cafes and with seating areas under palm trees. The "City of Hermes" has numerous churches, including Metamorphosis, Koimisis, St. Demetrius, Three Hierarchs, Anastasis, Evangelistria and St. Nicolas. The Archaeological Museum has many finds and the Municipal Library contains numerous editions. The quarter of the town known as Vaporia is where the sea captains lived. Along its narrow streets, stand numerous neo-classical mansions.

Hello Costantino,
The impressive sailing ship makes a spectacular focal point and stands out well against the background. I like how the ridge of the hill rises diagonally across the frame from right to left. The whole is very well exposed and has agreeable lights and colours and excellent clarity.

I like the look of the small boat speeding past the large ship in front of the beautiful view of the town climbing the hill. There is also a beautiful contrast between the light blue sky and the very dark sea. This is altogether a very eye-catching and attractive photo.

The views of Ermoupolis are magnificent.
The town cramped between the rough hill slope and the sea.
Here the large ship is an extra wonderful element on the picture.
You had a very good high point of view, probably on the upper deck of another boat.

A highly picturesque city. The lack of vegetation is fully compensated with its colorful architecture. The view seems to be even more beautiful due to a sailing vessel in the foreground. The composition, light, quality and especially colors are simply wonderful. Perfectly well done!
