Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
I am still on the theme of birds, a great treat when they come to your garden.
This is a goldfinch busily eating from our garden feeder. I would love to show you the bird in a more natural setting but, it flies straight from the countryside onto our feeders and there is no intermediate opportunity.
Anyway, I was thrilled just to have these birds visiting!
Like other finches, the goldfinches stay for a few minutes, gorging on the seeds, quite unlike the coal tits or blue tits, which swoop in, grab a seed and are quickly away!
As a workshop, I will show you a very rare visitor.
Have a good day, Bev :-)

Hi Bev
Lovely photo. I think gold finches are my favourite bird. We haven't had any for a while but I was quite excited early last year when an adult gold finch was feeding its young from the feeder.

Hi Bev,2 birds today after the robin, and 2 birds that i never seen in my life, not common in my zone, especially the goldfinch. And the main pic is absolutely perfect, surely easy to take with a bit of patience, and very good jay in the WS like a rare surprise for you and for us too. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hi Bev,
You encourage me to get back to birdwatching again. I moved to the new house 4-5 years ago and then I simply stopped birdwatching but on Facebook I have a dedicated photo album for that.
Goldfinches are one of my favourites. Lovely capture here, I think you know what you are doing, Nyjer seed is the favourite food for them the best way to attract them but they love sunflower hearts as well.
I am so jealous about the jay!
There was one coming to my old house as well but it was the most shy bird ever. I managed good photos of woodpecker etc but never a jay!
Very good garden you have.
I have never seen so many colorful birds in Poland. Maybe I wasn't paying attention.
Great series, I love it,
M

Hello Bev,
We had at least a dozen different kinds of birds coming regularly to our feeders when I was a child, but I never saw any goldfinch. It seems we lived just north of its territory. They are so pretty, and this one is sitting so nicely at the feeder, with a pleasantly blurred background. The jay, on the other hand, was fairly common, not very close to the house but in the garden or among surrounding trees.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Beverley,
The bird is well placed in the frame. The point of view is showing the details of the Goldfinch. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Bev,
I've everyday a Jay in my garden, I've two nice pictures made
It's not easy to make a picture, a very shy bird.
Every days birds in the garden, are the most pleasure moments.
In Belgium be almost no goldfinch, to much birds of prey.
Nice composition and excellent presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Hello Beverley,
In the wooded area close to my home, I've already seen a jay, but never a goldfinch.
It looks like a very special bird with its striped head and the red and yellow feathers definitely make it stand out.
Excellent sharp presentation.
Best regards, Paul

I saw some of these feeds in scotland. nice these two views, the birds are very beautiful and I never had seen them before. here my mother throw rice for the birds in the roof, sometimes my cats eat some bird, anyway they aren't rare birds and sometimes they are so stupid facing risks.
take care

Hi Bev
I guess providing feed to small birds is OK but we often have problems with people feeding large birds like cockatoos. One of our neighbours does it meaning I have to net all my fruit trees.
A good photo of a beautiful bird feeding.
cheers

Hi Beverley,
A bird specie we do not see in israel, only a similar type that already became rare / extinct specie in our country.
Wonderful focal point upon this lovely bird.
I believe it has a charming tweet.
Have a nice friday,
Ike
*** Jay is not so rare in Israel, though.

Hello Bev, I have just seen the tucan with the biiig beak, but this bird is beautiful too. You have an interesting feeder. And what a pleasure to see that the birds are using it.
There are some controversies about feeding the birds. Earlier, I also had a house for birds, and they came there for sunflower seeds, but now the winters are mild and birds can find food just on the trees.
Excellent picture.
Best regards Malgo

Hello Beverley, a lovely close up of the goldfinch. The blurred background works particularly well with its patches of bright green.
When you mentioned a rare visitor, I immediately guessed a jay even before I opened the shot!
Two lovely shots.
We have goldfinches occasionally, at this time of year they will eat the seeds from dead flower heads that we haven't trimmed in the autumn.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Bev,
Very sharp shot of this beautiful bird on the feeder. Blurry green background works well. Goldfinch is not very common in Finland. On the other hand the bird in WS, jay is common especially where my parents live, in the middle of woods.

Hi Bev
Natural environment or not, it's a lovely photo - sharp, full of detail and with good blurred background. And it shows what is a big part of this bird's everyday life.
It's the opposite here - we rarely see goldfinches but a jay (or 2) visit every morning. They come and go until monkey nuts run out in the feeder. It seems to be the only food that attracts them. They sometimes swallow the nuts complete with shells. But I do believe (and hope!) they regurgitate them later to peel and eat. They are very shy birds indeed and they fly off quickly with their food in their beaks (or, swallowed in a rush, down their throat).
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello Bev,
This is an excellent bird portrait with perfect focus. We can really appreciate the texture and colors of the bird's beautiful feathers, and I like the blurred background, too. Take care!
