Forget-me-not Blues, a photo from Jammu and Kashmir, North

Photographer's Note

At the end of the long Rupshu Valley, situated nearly 300 kilometers from Leh, lies the dazzling Tso Moriri Lake, literally meaning the lake of the mountain. The largest and the most beautiful lake in this valley, Tso Moriri, unlike Pangong Tso, is situated entirely in India. It is surrounded by snow-capped mountain peaks from all the sides.

A dusty road passing through the Rupshu Valley leads to Tso Moriri. The surrounding region is dominated by grassy planes and small mounds rising here and there. This is the terrain of the nomadic Khampa people, who herd pashmina goats and yaks and mostly lead a harsh life. As you enter the region, you spot several of their dwellings characterized by cheap yet modern tents.

It was after almost 10 hours since we began, that we reached Tsomoriri Lake stretching magnificently all of 20 kilometres. The first view of Tso Moriri is beautiful. But as you drive over a dusty road winding around the lake, the view becomes mesmerizingly beautiful. The water of the lake, a lovely shade of blue, reflects the snow-clad mountains on the other side and the brilliant forms of clouds in the sky. At the shore of the lake, the clarity of the water seems admirable as you can observe the bottom slope away into the depth for several feet. The thousand hues of blue that were painted on to the scenery. I had till now only seen pretty pictures of sapphire blue waters and skies. Used to the monochromatic greys of the city, the vivid colour of the lake seemed almost unnatural.

The small settlement of Korzok is the only permanent colony in this region & is one of the highest villages in the world at 15,075 ft, The locals, apart from their traditional businesses of gathering salt and trading pashmina wool, also depend on the cultivation of barley, which is done at a high amount. Tourism is also an important dependency resource for them. They facilitate tourists with restaurants run in temporary tents, which, out here, are nothing short of a great service.

The last 4 weeks have been very hectic & unsettling for me & that's the reason I could not post any pictures or critques.....life has settled down from last weekend & hopefully I will resume my normal activity in TE beginning today

A long time without seeing your posts ! Everything all right ?
Not an easy game to shoot at Tso Moriri due to the lack of FG, but you managed well here thanks to the successive layers of the poles, the white stones and the yellow grass
Light and colors are just the way I remember them

Hello Angshu,

I am happy and interested to see this shot because it is a place I dream to visit one day. I had an opportunuity this summer but it was finally cancelled.
I really like the so special lightning we can have in Ladakh.
The only thing I would have removed is the iron fence, a bit breaking the idea of wilderness the photo should share.

A different kind of composition of marvellous pastel colours. The fence in the foreground is an interesting addition which breaks the atmosphere in a clever way. This is very much a photo which could have been a painting.

The distance between the fence and the lake is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the scenery. The good luminosity is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Welcome back!
A scenic mountain landscape so very well captured in nice layers of colours and beautifully composed with incredible backdrop. Great feel of space and depth with patches of green and turquoise pulling the eyes in, and such vividness throughout. Excellent coloring, lighting and contrast blessed by the grey sky. From the other side of the barreer a lower position to give a deeper foreground.
