The Venetian's Venice II, a photo from Venice, Veneto

Photographer's Note

Clutching clusters of colorful balloons, the young family is rushing off, presumably to provide decorations for a local event. Almost 50 million tourists visit Venice annually, but relatively few get to see the lesser-known northern sector of the city where I took the photo. Venice, the storied city situated in a lagoon off the northeast corner of Italy, is comprised of 117 small islands, 150 canals and 409 bridges. Indeed, the gondolas are its cars, the vaporetti its buses, the canals its roads, and the sweeping S-shaped Grand Canal its major thoroughfare. It would be an understatement to say that it is one of the most interesting and beautiful cities of the world. The immensely creative individuals who called the city home at one time or another include painters, Titian, Bellini, Tintoretto; composer, Vivaldi; astronomer-mathematician, Galileo; lover and general low-life, Cassanova� and for a short time in the early 16th century, the universal genius, Leonardo.

This is a sequel to a photograph, The Venetian's Venice I, shot no more than 30 meters away. I will "hang it" in the private group Life on the Venetian Canals where it can be viewed as part of a slide show.

Judging from the buildings this is clearly not the very picturesque part of Venice where tens of thousand of tourists line every canal and crowd every square. I would guess that chances of taking interesting photos in the streets are a lot better when avoiding the tourist districts. These houses look fairly dull, but the balloons and the persons holding them easily compensate for the lack of beautiful fa鏰des and romantic gondolas.

Hello Bulent, Venice is marvelous city and so beautiful when you leave the places filled up with tourists and go to see the real life of Venetians (we often say so - with no tourists, but who we are? also tourists :)) . So many colourful balloons make this view intestersting but we still see that it is Venice - with canal and bridge. I was this yea a few hours in Florence, it was so crowded that I was disgusted rather then ovewhelmed by beauty.

We see a family with balloons with different drawings and other motives.
A nice daily life picture as street view.
But I like your angle and the quality of the picture.

Most of the time balloons conjure happiness especially the colorful ones. Nice capture of those balloons with good lighting and nice details. Very well done, tfs.

The U.S. F/A-18 are strictly Navy aircraft but it will be replaced by the new planes, the F-35C Lightning II. I posted an Air Force version of the F-35A and the Marine version the F-35B.

This is one of those moments that are accidental but you're so glad you were there at the time! The balloons are so colourful and so much part of the f/g that it is almost as if you have done a partial desaturation! The focal people carry us along in a wave of excitement and, then, we realise that Venice is the setting so we get a double whammy!!

With regard to your critique, no we didn't get to Ledbury, more's the pity. With two days travelling there and back, we only really had four days in Llancloudy. We visited Monmouth, Hereford and Skenfrith. We have a campervan and have decided to visit counties or towns that we have never seen before, whenever possible.

This is a fun photo, and something a bit different from Venice. We still see a canal, but also a bit of daily life. It seems like there are baby carriages on some of the blue balloons. Maybe this family is going to a baby shower. :-) I like that you captured them walking away.

Hi Bulent. Wonderful colours brighten up what appears to be a fairly overcast day. Let's hope that it wasn't the lungs of these three that provided the air inside the balloons.
