Photographer's Note
Impressive jawbone with those sharp fangs! And to think that these animals are mainly herbivores ... Hippos observed along the Zambezi River, upstream from Victoria Falls.

Hello Jean,
It's an amusing photo, and it's perfectly timed. We should remember that this "funny" animal is one of the most dangerous to be found in Africa. But you were lucky to take such a perfectly sharp and well exposed photo.

Gert

Hi Jean
That's a dentally challenged Hippo, he certainly looks as though he can inflict heavy damage with those teeth!

Hello Jean,
Hippos are one of the most dangerous animals in Africa and, when you see a view like this, you can understand why!
This is a very effective crop, to concentrate on the huge gape of this river-loving mammal. I'm sure a dentist would find it even more exciting!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Jean,
The flattened perspective from the zoom tells us you were cautious not to get too close to this dangerous animal, which kills more people than the Nile crocodile every year! Good sharpness and framing. Tfs!

Bonjour Jean,
La gueule de l'hippopotame est impressionnante. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de la tête de l'hippopotame. La lumière fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne journée.

Salut Jean
Perfect timing to capture the moment and hippo at its most impressive!
I was told that they, although they want eat a human, one has to be super careful when approaching as they are not as patient and benign as they may look.
But they are beautiful creatures regardless!
Best wishes
Kasia

Bonjour Jean, perfect timing! Just don’t get too close!
The ‘river horse’ , the meaning of hippopotamus.
Lucky having the second hippo in shot with its eyes and ears just above the water.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Jean,
Very impressive shot showing jaws of the hippopotamus wide open. And another one with just eyes and ears visible. I guess that's quite typical for these animals.

Bonjour Jean

Hello Jean
A lovely shot of the Hippo's mouth giving the details of the interior....One can see the sticky saliva also :)....tightly framed sharp composition with great details.... Look at his eyes...as if waiting for an approval from the photographer if the shot has been over or not :)

Bonjour Jean,
fantastic capture. These are not animals which we often see in photos. Especially photographed in wild. They may be vegetarians but I heard they may be quite aggressive as well.
Nice pose, one of them is hiding well in the water.
Excellent capture,
M

Hi Jean
its not everyday we get to see the inside of the mouth like this, and with a Hippo. its actually quite educational in a way. I find myself just looking and looking at the screen.
really cool post. cheers
