Photographer's Note
I couldn't help myself but to upload another series of photos (2 more in the WS) from this haunted, creepy, mansion in Iceland.
Now I know for a fact some of you, yes that means you Malgo :) will be sighing deeply! Malgo has a hard time understanding why I love to photograph such subjects when on vacation in such a beautiful country like Iceland.
I think why NOT!! Everyone comes back from Iceland with fantastic nature shots, and I took nature photo's as well, but how many people come home with subjects like this!! haha...not very many people!
If you're at all familiar with my gallery, you'll know my story of this Mansion in the middle of nowhere.
I attempted to go inside, thinking it was totally abandoned - and why wouldn't I by looking at its condition!!
But as I was trying to get through the locked front door, I noticed through the small window, a scary looking older man walking UP the staircase from the basement....and he wasn't very happy with me.
I was just glad I got my photo's before this happened!
So here are some additional photo's of my favorite Iceland experience, you can check out the WS as well.
Hope you enjoy them too Malgo but I won't be surprised if you don't, and there's no hard feelings :)
Thanks for looking

Hello Craig,
By these three pictures my preference goes out to the altered image #1. I think the red colour of the car and the contrast with the blue sky were the decisive factors.
These aren't the well-known images of beautiful Iceland but very high quality pictures.
Best regards, Paul

Hi, Craig,
Another picturesque presentation of the Iceland's ruins. What does here this old Russian "Niva" (on the FG) ?? Amazing scene.
Thanks for this sharing! I will show your work to my friends too.
Best wishes,

Il est certain que tes photos d'Islande sont pour le moins originales et totalement inattendues!Ta découverte de ce village abandonné t'a, en tout cas, permis de faire de sacrées photos!

Hi Craig,
Great shot of this old building which has fallen on hard times. When I see photos like this I always wonder what it must have been like in its earlier days and the history of the people who lived there. Nice composition with the two rusty old cars in the foreground .

Arthur.

Hello Craig,
I agree you cannot imagine anybody actually living here, but I have seen similar looking buildings in France still inhabited. Often when you get inside, they are little palaces. Anyway, I do like this shot complete with the rusty old cars.

Hi Craig,
I am with you on this, I love a good creepy mansion, in fact I spend probably far too much time trying to find places like this to shoot. This is a doozie, and not only for the fine big house, but also for the location, what a wonderful position! Love the workshops, and of course your original story that goes with that.
No wonder why the old man was not happy, he was probably busy burying bodies in the basement, or perhaps was just about to power up his very own Frankenstein monster.
All the best

Hi Craig!
I can answer to Malgo -
This kind of shots are attractive, ruins, old cars are not anything what we can see everyday and it's a reason of attractiveness of your photos. Photos of nature are beautiful but your shots are beautiful, too - everything is needed - every theme and every kind of shots. I like your photos. TFS
Have a nice day

Hello, Craig!
It must have been exactly like that for decades! And it's impressive that there was someone living there, are you sure it was not a ghost? But I agree with you, these old buildings are just great, and the picture has very good colors! Beautiful job!

Bonjour Craig,
J'aime beaucoup ces vieilles maisons délabrées qui sont toujours un sujet photographique qui apporte des surprises. On y voit beaucoup de textures différentes.

Hi Craig,
I thought this kind of scenes are more to find in East or Southern Europe or in other poor regions of the world, never expect to find them there, in the North...an you understand my economical based theory. Anyway, interesting and attractive. Perfect quality (and beware, your head is on the back wheel:P)

It is really a scary house, effects of time, so the world will look in 40 years without people, when people will dead. I hope it isn't our future.

Hello Craig,
These cars are so hopelessly wrecked that they're good enough even for me :-). And the spooky house is beautiful. I think you managed something with the sky to make it look even more creepy. Or maybe it's just the light and the strong contrasts. I think the tree does something to the scary atmosphere too.
I really like this photo, and those in the ws. I guess the only decent looking car was the one you had rented.
Cheers,
Gert

Ciao Craig
Ciao e buon fine settimana
Romano

Hi Craig
Another of your excellent sneak and sniff when you came across this rather eerie sight, weathered old buildings and the junk irons totally abandoned waiting to be knocked down for good. Lovely aged look bags of character before they tear all the character out of this place - the polarised blue sky livens this shot tremendously creating a striking contrast, and your compo is everything here; I love the low and close view point. Well done. Congrats
Best regards

Hi Craig,
I've been in Vik but I can't remember this scary house. The wide angle makes the POV very interesting. A good subject to be converted into B&W I think. Excellent sharpness.
Have a nice day,

Hello Craig,
I am hoping this is an isolated area and not a general indication of the sad state of Iceland's current economy. I know it was hit hard by the recent recession, so hope this is not typical. Anyway the rusted old car, peeling paint and long grass give a look of abandonment which is well captured here. I sometimes steer away from the pretty postcard shots too and tell it like it really is. Good street journalism imho. Tfs!

Hi Craig!
Truly scary, specially with the fact that there was a man in there! Gee!
Glad some of us take their time to take pictures like this one here, because, it's not common really and we, who don't do that, have the privilege to watch such scenes without being afraid.
TFS - congrats,
Enjoy your week-end,

Hi Craig,
Indeed I remember this mansion, without doubt one of the best narrations to a photo ever! :) I agree wholeheartedly, these kinds of subjects carry an enormous amount of interest and oddly fascinating charm. Don't get me wrong, the traditional and scenic material is also interesting, but these offer so much more of a different appeal.
Good to see this in it's entirety, as well as seeing yourself...I'm assuming anyway that's your shadow along the bottom?? This is a great example of one mans trash being another mans treasure! I think it's safe to say that even if the old man was to chase you away, he wouldn't have been able to do so by running you down with a car!?
That blue sky and wisp of clouds makes the perfect backdrop of color and contrast to this run down and faded landscape. Really like how this all comes together, bringing an attractive quality to the lifeless, or seemingly so, estate. Now ruuuuun! :)
Take it easy,
Jason

Hi Craig,
That is a hounted looking place, especially when you find one in the middle of nowhere. I see you have compromised the angle with showing your shadow. But what has that mystery man done to that Niva? I though they would go on forever. You shouldn't have been too surprised to meet someone there as the WS shows one car with plates.

Hello Craig,
This is a fabulous find and I completely understand why you would want to photograph this. The old cars, particularly the very rusty one in the FG add so much to the scary mansion. The brown grass also helps to give the impression of desolation and neglet.
A super image - sorry I took so long to find it (been busy).
Kind Regards, Ann

Hi Craig,
I think the scare was well worth it. The adrenalin rush is long out of your system, I am sure your blood pressure is back to normal by now, but you have this precious photo that will continue to be with you (just make sure you have enough back-ups).
Well seen and very well rendered!

Hi Craig!
I believe that if you ever come here you won't leave so soon:)! I remember the other one and I like this one also. I wouldn't resist it if I passed there:)! What a place with the old house, the cars and the naked tree. Excellent colours also - seems taken from a movie!
