House of the Blackheads

For my 500th post, I chose this view from the Latvian capital of Riga. It is a photo taken in the old town of the city (Vecrīga) and shows you the House of the Blackheads (Melngalvju nams) and St. Peter's Church (Svētā Pētera Evaņģēliski luteriskā baznīca).

The House of the Blackheads was built in the 14th century by a guild for umarried German merchants, the Brotherhood of Blackheads. It was bombed during the Second World War and later demolished by the Soviets. Between 1995 and 1999 the buildings were recontructed.

Hello Lars,
I didn't actually know that these houses were reconstructed so recently. They certainly make the old town of Riga look nicer. I didn't find Riga as a whole a very beautiful city, but this looks great, especially in such a well balanced photo with these superb colours.
Congratulations on your little jubilee. It has taken you a long time to reach 500.

En u koos geen Nederlandse foto, maar eentjes uit Riga Letland.
De architectuur is bijzonder mooi, en schitterend weergegeven met een grote foto.

Mid-summer shine brought a wonderful sight of the beautiful architecture's on the old-town main square, Lars.
Despite the slight lens distortion, the picture is superbly in fine details, show tourists are all over as well.

Een van de mooiste pleintjes in Riga met prachtige architectuur en met een geschiedenis.
De blauwe lucht op de achtergrond laat de gebouwen in hun rood-roze kleur nog meer tot hun recht komen.

Hello Lars

Riga is also a very nice Baltic States city. Perspective has been well managed here placing the vertical lines centrally. tHe people add scale and animate the scene. Good sharpness and nice warm cold color contrasts between the red brick facades and red roofs and the blue sky. Tfs!

too bad these had to be re-built, it would be amazing to see the originals. But this is real life though, many buildings suffered the same fate in europe in WWII.

Great weather, fantastic light, everything so colorful, the details of architecture can be appreciated very well, sky lovely too.
It looks quite encouraging to visit Riga.

I like the scene, was there myself in 2014, the photo has a typical problem of tilting the camera up and getting distortion in the buildings (church on left), otherwise a nice image.

Lars, the picture presents a building of interest situated in Riga. Its facade is decorated by statues, a clock and paintings. A church clock tower appears on the left. The locals and tourists animate the composition. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.
