Photographer's Note
First in a short series of pictures taken in the tiny republic of San Marino. They were captured on the way to a very enjoyable holiday in Umbria, Italy in July 2002.
Some information from Wikipedea about San Marino:
The Most Serene Republic of San Marino (Italian: Serenissima Repubblica di San Marino) is a country in the Apennine Mountains. It is a landlocked enclave, completely surrounded by Italy. One of the European microstates, San Marino has the smallest population of all the members of the Council of Europe.
San Marino is the oldest sovereign state and constitutional republic in the world, having been founded on 3 September 301 by Marinus of Rab, a Christian stonemason fleeing the religious persecution of Roman Emperor Diocletian. San Marino's constitution of 1600 is the world's oldest constitution still in effect.

bonjour Stephen
I found out about San Marino only after joining TE. And here you gave very simple yet informative note about the republic. How nice if one of us is the king of that republic!
The Vatican at the left coast and San Marino at the right coast of Italy, that is very interesting history.
Very peaceful undulating hills of the scenery here in foggy aerial view. Good quality from 2002 vantage.
Merry Xmas and Happy 2009 New Year to you.
tfs, bill
