Photographer's Note

Inner courtyard of Al-Zitouna mosque, founded in AD 734 and built on a site once occupied by a church located in the heart of Tunis medina. It was totally rebuilt in the 9th century and restored many times over the
centuries. Its huge prayer hall incorporates more than 200 authentic columns scrounged from the ruins of the old city of Roman Carthage miles away.

Setting: 14 mm, 1/60 sec, F22, ISO Raw 200, 0742 hrs & polarised

Marvellous warm cold colour contrasts between the blue sky and the reddish yellow stone walls and arches of the mosque. The minaret is nicely framed by the fg double arch. Tfs!

Hello Abmdsudi,
The sunlight was wonderful and added such a great, warm hue to the right hand side. It makes a good contrast with the darker areas and the blue sky as well. The large square tower is nicely seen inside on of the many arches around the courtyard. Well done.

I've see quite a few mosques and churches built using old roman columns. This looks like a particularly good example. Well taken and presented.

An original and effective frame, using the arches as a natural frame to show the colonnades of the mosque's courtyard and its splendid minaret.
Very nice color, which together with good sharpness and optimal lighting, gives great quality to the image.
