River of Gold, a photo from Barisal, South

Photographer's Note

Somewhere down the lazy river, somewhere after Barisal on our way to Khulna, I broke the rules and pointed my lens into the sun. Even though it was mid-morning, the bright sunlight reflecting from the water turned the boats into silhouettes against the golden glare.

Impressive light and colors. The shadows create a strong atmosphere and it was a good idea to put some others in the background to have some depth. Great sharpness too.

I love such dramatic shots against the sunlight. Excellent result in here with the three sillouettes of these nice traditional boats spread around the image. Very good framing for this one in foreground, with a good detail of the boatman. The bright lighting effect on the water surface is wonderful. Very good work!

Hi Jonathan - this is arguably the best of the ones from Banglasdesh so far, the timing is perfect with the low sun, and the boats are not completely silhoetted out of their details

A beautiful shot Jonathan that has a look of real serentity to it - something I would never expect from photos of Bangladesh. The golden cast over the water is simply suberb.

Well, the gold is one thing, the perspective and sense of depth and distance created by the increasingly small boats is another, making the photo much more interesting. There's a bit of definition even on the second boat. A really good shot taken at just the right moment to frame the three craft. The pose of the man adds real dynamism to the shot, too.

Excellent shot! The silhpuettes rhyme together beautifully,... specially that of the man with the oar in the left - it leads us into the picture. Also the golden glitter on the water looks enchanting. Thanks for sharing.
