Photographer's Note
Brahminy Kites are a common sight in the Sundarbans. They often circled close to our boat and dropped down to the water to catch fish. Here is some more information about the bird taken from Wikipedia:
The Brahminy Kite, Haliastur indus, is a medium-sized bird of prey in the family Accipitridae which also includes many other diurnal raptors such as eagles, buzzards and harriers.
This kite is a familiar sight in the skies of India and southeast Asia as far as tropical north Australia, through which region it is widespread and resident.
It has a typical kite flight, with wings angled, but its tail is rounded unlike the Milvus species, Red Kite and Black Kite, which have forked tails.
The Brahminy Kite is an attractive bird, with chestnut plumage except for the white head and breast and black wing tips. The juveniles are browner, but can be distinguished from both the resident and migratory races of Black Kite in Asia by the paler appearance, shorter wings and rounded tail.
This species nests in trees, often close to water. It feeds as a scavenger.

Hi Jonathan,
Great picture of this bird of pray in action. With the bird in the right lower corner you choose for a excellent composition. Especially without so much time to wait for the right moment.

Hello Jonathan,
superbe prise bien opportuniste, l'attente du bon moment et le talent pour ne pas la rater.
En plus, le cadrage est parfait.
Vraiment une réussite.
Compliments.

A very unusual angle, Jonathan, and a perfect timing. You were lucky with the mussy color of the water, that puts more attention on the bird.
Grat capture.

Hi Jonathan,
Great shot, good timing. Sharp. A bit too much on 'blank' space in the picture (Of course, this opinion is very subjective....)

Great photo compositionally and colour-wise. The position of the bird in the frame is wonderfully dramatic, and the image is very clear for the aperture/speed combination. A very well cropped photo, very striking.

Wow, what an simple but incredible image. I really like how you froze the bird just at the right moment with its wings spread wide and talons ready to snatch a fresh meal. Beautiful colors and nice sharpness.

Wow!...this is a beautiful shot Jonathan. The extreme moment of the hunt is captured. I liked the way you composed the shot. Also very limited use of colors has made the photograph simple but bold.
Its a great pity that because of the rapid urbanization and transforming of wetlands into housing estates these beautiful birds are losing their habitats fast. I remember seeing them in Dhaka when I was a kid, but it has been long since I last saw any of them in the city.
Anyway, great shot.

Wow, An impressive action shot, Jonathan, You have well captured the moment of the bird to attach its hunting subject in this picture. Nice composition to have the bird well positioned in this picture. The tone of the water well matches and well contrast with the feather color of the bird. A well taken picture.

Une telle scène avec simplement un 18-70 ce n'est pas évident, Jonathan.
L'oiseau est pris juste au bon moment de la capture et les couleurs sont superbes.

Hi Jonathon,
This picture was posted in featured destinations on the TE homepage today. I'm surprised at how much it looks like and eagle. I collect pictures of birds in flight and I've added yous to my collection. I hope it's okay.
