Photographer's Note
The Battambang town has a very French colonial look due to earlier French rule. Little has changed since the 1950s when the French colonial era ended.
Along the river bank you will find some of the best examples of French colonial architecture, with its ornate buildings (I like its blend of colours, typically in yellow) which seems a bit out of place with the local ambience. Though sometimes difficult to see through the grime and disrepair of years of hardship and neglect, much of that beauty still exists just barely hidden beneath, but some have been restored and refurbished.
Life here is laid back and the pace is slow. In the evenings, take in the cool breeze as you walk along the banks of the main river that runs through the town – the Sangker River.
