Photographer's Note
The is the main street of Battambang, one of the largest cities of Cambodia. I think Battambang used to be the second largest city but now it has been surpassed by Siem Reap and maybe also Sihanoukville, both benefitting from a rush of tourists.
Very few tourists seem to stay in Battambang, most just passing by on their way from Thailand to Phnom Penh. I didn't mind the relative emptiness. I enjoyed the quiet streets and a prize level almost half of that of the other major cities. It is a nice and pleasant city with a handful of restaurants and a few decent hotels. I was surprised to find a very nice modern café. Battambang is also a good starting point for excursions to interesting temples and villages in the near surroundings.
You can see two more pictures from Battambang as workshops.

Hi neighbour Gert!
I like the collonial architecture here and the POV you choosed.
Good daylife with pedestrians , a bycicle and scooters. The ghosthouse on the left balcony is a nice detail in your composition.
I have been two times in Cambodia but never managed to go there, because I was reading the bus ride from Bangkok is a torture....

Hi Gert
Good choice of location seldom seen on TE as compared to other popular spots as you have mentioned but still not lacking of interests though. A colorful street scene indeed taken dynamically to maximise the impact depicting a fine visual description of everyday life, strong on details with nice touches of vivid colors full of local ambience. I enjoy the addtional pictures too particularly the market scene, good slice of real life seen through your eyes. Anothe fine shot from your collections. Well done

Hi Gert.
A very pleasing daily life shot, from a well chosen angle. It's very quiet, but not devoid of life and movement. I found complete quiet and stillness almost impossible to find in SE Asia, although I've not been to Cambodia. There are some good colour highlights and a pleasant absence of motor vehicles. Your excellent note makes one want to visit this city, especially if one can obtain a good espresso there.

Andrew

Hej Gert,

Hi Gert
I have to be honest, Cambodia has never really been anywhere near or even ON my travel destination list.
I don't really know what to expect, don't really know what the key highlights would be - guess i should educate myself on it one day :)
having said all of that, i do totally love and admire these shots....scenes of far away countries that I've never seen before. great to see the everyday life and the style of architecture, seeing how the roads and stores are all laid out.
One thing that caught my attention, not only in Cambodia i suppose, but in many asian countries - is how people allow young infants to sit up at the front of the bike, as this woman is doing in your photo.
Here in Canada, if we did that people would notify the police immediately! culture culture culture :)
great shot
cheers

Hello Gert,
A lovely trio of photographs from Battambang. It might look a little tatty in your wider views of the street but that looks like a fine and busy fruit and vegetable market in your closer shot.
All three pictures are well composed and show fine snapshots of life in this city with perfect exposure, lovely vibrant colours and excellent detail.
I was pleased that you managed to find satisfactory accommodation and eating places at a more reasonable cost than in the more "touristy" areas.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. What would have been even better would have been an older picture from the 70s ot 80s of this place - had you visited it long before?

Hej Gert,

Nice daily life shot here, Gert - I'm constantly amazed not just at your travel list, but also at how you always seem to manage to get off the beaten path into places tourists tend not to go. It allows you a really impressive authenticity in these shots. I like how we can see here clear colonial influences as well as modern touches, and the one little birdhouse that's a reminder of the former glory of the region. A bit of sad commentary, really. Thanks!

Gert,
what I am trying to learn form your photos is the ability of making the very simple scene quite special. The composition in here is neat and POV seems to be carefully chosen in order to catch the most intriquing part of the street life. Very natural and vivid colors help to capture attention and plenty of details make the eye dwell on the image longer and longer.
Well done and thanks for sharing

Hello Gert,
You have such a great collection of daily life images & always accompanied with interesting notes.
The architecture is a little bit Colonial in style.
I like mum & her child on the bike maybe heading off to buy some groceries.
Excellent sharpness & POV.

Hello Gert,
an effective presentation of this daily life scenery with superb composition and perspective that offer dynamism to the tranquil view multiplying the focal points and interest. There's also a gradual discovery of details that makes the scene more vivid. I like very much the placement of the people in the composition and the sense of movement they offer. Lighting and colours are great. Both of your workshop pictures are informative and lovely too. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

Hello Gert,
I appears that there are some one spacious street in Cambodia. What a happy development that the country has returned to the pre-Revolutionary days of the Khmer Rouge. I like this street scene in Battanbang. I imagine your travels have taken you to Angkor Wat also.
Have a good weekend,

Hej Gert,

Hi Gert!
Need to put Cambodia on my list:)!Seems there are really no tourists around here. Even the markets seem much like those I usually find in the less touristic places - I like that!
It's a good photo of the street, with the houses forming a diagonal and so much life going on in the street and so many details to see. I specially like the red motorbike and the bike passing and the green house of spirits at the top.

Hello Gert
Battambang is not an attractive place, as you rightly say...just another similar city in Cambodia. teh houses have traces of colonial designs. Seems strange about so less people on the road...wonder why? What time of the day did you take this shot? Nice daily life image

Hej Gert.
Trafikken er ganske overskuelig her.
Hej-hej Gert. Hav en god dag

Gert, i ve good memories of Battambang although the weather was suffocating before the monsoon. The buildings have a colonial architectural style i think. They house shops at street level and rooms for families at the first floor. The picture gives a glimpse of the daily life in the town with the hawker, the cyclist, the passersby. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hello Gert,
Also in 2020 there were no hordes of tourists in Battambang. Other places appeared to attract more foreigners. However, in the evening everyone who stayed in Battambang went to the caves in the south of the city to see the bats :) That turned out to be a highlight for many.
Interesting and beautiful pictures of the city's main street. For some reason I don't have photos of it. But I took some in the street along the river.
I also like the shot of the fruit and vegetable market in the WS.
Indeed, Battambang is now Cambodia's third largest city in terms of population (after the capital and Siem Reap).
Best regards, Paul
