Photographer's Note
Travelling around the world allow us to get to know about our mankind differences. Eating dogs in some asian countries like China or South Korea is quite a usual thing to do as a meal starter. It may sound disgusting for the westerners that we are, and who truly love this adorable and faithful animal. However, european people love eating rabbit for instance. What most asian people would not do. Therefore, we all need to put some efforts into cultivating and understanding our diversity but in any case it does prevent us to point out what is not acceptable. And the way dogs are carried in trunks and on trucks in China really gets me upset. Dogs are not the only victims, goats, horses, cows and.. even rabbits are maltreated! I just wish China would change a bit faster for the well-being of all of us, animals and people...

Hi,
As the first commentator has pointed out, this is indeed a rather unpleasant picture, but I think an important one. By unpleasant, I do not mean that I am offended by it, but that it reflects the sad and cruel treatment of animals that I too have seen all too often in China. I couldn't agree more about China's need to change its practices, to become more humane, and indeed civilised - though I would expect that stating this wouldn't go down well with most Chinese.
In repsponse to your photo, I have decided to post a dog food photo of my own:

Hi Thibaut,
sad but true...striking documentary...the white dog expression is enormously sad...still animals are killed for food...in my opinion it does not really matter if these are dogs, cats or what we call domestic animals here in Europe...have you seen how pigs, chicken or turkeys are transported to be slaughtered...looks exactly the same way to be honest...caged on top of trucks...happens normally early in the morning so people driving to work do not see these happening...cheers, arturo

I make the wish that posting that kind of photo on the web will help making things evolve. But I too much know that it takes generally alot of time to change some habbits. No matter what people eat for meat, the animals should be treated well. Sharing that photo is a way to keep our eyes open and I want to believe it is useful.

Great and sad! It should be published in a magazine! OK I accept different cultures; they eat cats, dogs and “others”, we eat only “others”. But what I see is not humanely.

This is the inhumane part.... Sad to see... I can understand the culture of eating dogmeat, but this is cruelty...

hi thib,
i am asian myself ...and part in me runs chinese blood as my grandfather , am told was from shanghai. to see my favorite animal treated like this is so disgusting and unhuman! and the 'infestation' to eating dogs has already been 'introduced' in the northern parts of the philippines, the provinces that are south of taiwan and korea! i am from the south and by mere mentioning about dog eating, i already get nauseated, so gross!
