Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery (Man Fat Tsz) is a Buddhist temple in Sha Tin, Hong Kong. It is not an actual monastery as there are no resident monks and is managed by laypersons. It was built by Yuet Kai, a devout Buddhist layman who dedicated the last years of his life to constructing an elaborate temple containing nearly 13,000 statues of Buddha.

This is one of the statues alongside the stairway leading up to the monastery.

The pensive pose of the statue strangely reminds me of something rather more mundane. These days you'd expect a mobile phone whenever you see someone in this pose. Sad times...

Hello Ben, 13 thousands of Buddha statues is quite a lot. He looks indeed as if is calling someone but probably not Elvis. I like his unusual pose. Great contrast with the red background, for me always attractive is the exotic script.
Must be interesting place.

Oh, toen ik de kleine versie zag dacht ik echt dat deze Boeddha aan het bellen was. Volgens mij heb ik deze plek met de vele Boeddhabeelden eens op tv gezien. Het gouden beeld steekt mooi af tegen de rode achtergrond, net zoals de letters dat doen.

What an experience to have been so close to such wonderful works of art - a stunning religious icon. The crisp golden fig is so strikingly stands out to blood red background with lovely bits of green as a final touch. Great work.

yes, he looks like calling in the cell phone. I have choose an image I took of an ancient greek sculpture where women looks like talking this way too.funny.
