Photographer's Note

Tongren in the east of Qinghai province is known for its thangka art. Thangka is typically Tibetan painting, usually on cotton or silk.

Wutun Si, the monastery of Wutun, just outside Tongren, is particulary famous for its artwork. Free visits are not allowed, but there is usually a monk around who can walk you around.

This picture was shot from just outside the temple grounds and shows a part of the upper monastery, called 'Yango'. You can see two stupa's (in Tibetan, they're called chorten) and the big golden buddha statue in the back.

Uw foto is zeer mooi gefotografeerd met een pracht van kleuren.

Hallo Benny,
Ik moet bekennen dat ik nog nooit van Tongren gehoord heb. Ofwel heb ik de naam vroeger tijdens mijn Chinareizen gehoord maar daarna vergeten.
Met zekerheid weet ik dat ik dit beeld nog nooit eerder zag. Dat zou ik niet vergeten.
Deze chorten zien er reusachtig groot en heel mooi uit. Een mooi verschil tussen de gouden chorten en die met de vele beeldhouwwerken in kleur.
De gouden Boeddha moet ook enorm zijn. Geweldig hoe hij daar achter de bomen oprijst.
Een prachtig overzicht vanop een heuvel waarbij de kale bergen voor een mooie achtergrond zorgen.

An interesting shot with equally interesting note. You had an excellent viewpoint for this shot of the fabulous temple - it looks almost like a fairy-tale land with nothing visible to my eye anyway of the modern industrial world. Beautiful picture.
