Monkey Looking at the Sea, a photo from 安徽, Central

Photographer's Note

I know I'm not consistent with the title, the scenery in Huang Shan for Chinese people is like heaven on earth, that how I end up with the title originally. The second title is "Monkey Looking at the Sea" That is the office name of this peak. You see the little rock on top of the peak looks like a monkey looking into the photo and when there is a sea of clouds like it is here. Therefor the name of this peak, Monkey looking at the Sea.

the illuminated rock in FG is an authentic splendid element that give a great mood to your magnificent image. The scenery in BG is a really masterpiece of the nature.
The little rock seems a monkey looking at the cloudy sea.

Very nice mood with the golden tones of sunrise and the color contrast with the icy blue in the shadow. It should have been cold at that time.

Hello Way - An image of contrasts; the contrast between the warmly lit carst and the shadowed area is dramatic and emphasises this spectacular landscape at dawn extremely well. The contrast between the soft clouds and hard-edged texted rock accentuates both qualities and of course the contrast between the yellows and blues add to the feeling of space and distance. I like the inclusion of the pine needles in the FG, they echo nicely with the ones on the mountain. This "big" landscape is a challenge which your image meets very well. Best wishes Rosemary

I am happy to see your wonderful photographs again!
You seem to produce a jewel after another, and I marvel at your gallery once more...

This last one is enchanting and stupefying (how did you reach up there?). The light is superb, with a striking contrast between the enlightened rock and the sea of clouds. The scenery is spectacular in itself but you magnified it, captured at a pivotal moment with this raking light. A perfect shot, with an elegant framing. There is only one thing, if I might say: The silhouette of the monkey, couldn't it be also an owl? :D

Another superb shot from this place...the small rock at the top indeed looks like a little monkey looking down at the sea of clouds. Light falling from the right highlighting the rocks differentially is what makes this shot such a visual masterpiece...especially in the right where light & shade 'interact' & also the frosted trees in the FG are in bluish tinge of shade. Marvellous!

What a gorgeous place a stunning view and superbly composed. Excellent shooting angle, I like the way the superb clouds create an horizon, such a beauty. This location must have inspired many artists and poets alike for many generations and what an experience when you are above the clouds. Lovely golden glow hitting the site of karst has added to the drama as well as creating such a good color contrast. The 'monkey' is at the best vantage point at the peak creates a special atmosphere and mysterious feel to it. This is really a very good shot, takes a lot of effort to get up there but you had your rewards with the light and cloud inversion. Great sense of adventure and discovery, the experience is going to live in your memory for a long time. Great effort, a delightful shot. Have a nice weekend

En effet, ce paysage doit 阾re proche du paradis, si ce n'est pas le paradis c閘este, c'est du moins le paradis terrestre.

Hi Way,

It is said, if you have seen Huang Shan (黄山) once, there is no need to see other mountains in China. Your gorgeous pictures prove that. They are absolutely beautiful. But I have never been there. It抯 on my top the travel bucket list though. Ironically, I have visited more places in US than in China.

We are heading to Alaska next week. I do not expect to see bears in this time of the year (more likely in July and August). I抦 more excited about glaciers. We will be in Glacier Bay National Park. Hopefully the weather will be nice.

PS: Hotels in Yellowstone NP are in such high demand. For this summer, people made reservations as early as last May. But keep calling, maybe you have luck. Because people make cancellation all the time. Another option is hotels outside the park.
