Photographer's Note

There are many waterfalls in Jiuzhaigou. Pearl Shoal Waterfall is one of larger and better known in the Park, located in Jiuzhaigou, at an altitude of 2,433 metres (7,982 ft), the top of the waterfall is 162.5 metres (533 ft) in width. It has a fall of 40 metres (130 ft). The waterfall exists on one of the tributaries of the Bailong Jiang (White Dragon River).

It is not easy to take a good shot of it because there are so many visitors, they bump into you while you try to take pictures, they want to be inside the picture so they take up the space. On the wooden viewing deck, the tripod doesn抰 work because of too many people walking around. One really needed to be patient and or fine spot with less people which is not easy if you want a good POV. I found this place away from the people and still have really good direct view of the waterfall. There are many Chinese movies filmed at this waterfall because of its incredible beauty.

Hi way. i am not surprised at your resourcefulness and patience since your photos tend to demonstrate these qualities. The 1/4 second exposure has created a wonderful effect on the cascading water. The platform with the bumping people gives a sense of scale and there is still another cascade behind the people!Lovely mix of green and golden hues.Love it. best wishes. Klaudio.

Hello Way, the waterfalls in Jiuzhaigou are so marvelous so no wonder every Chinese wants to have photo or selfie with it. But you were patient so rewarded with this gorgeous shot. You chose well the time to go there, in autumn colours it is probably the most charming. magnificent view. Haha, there are people in the right corner. I love such silky look of water.

Wow, your efforts really paid big dividends, this is an amazing point of view on the waterfalls. Good to know you didn't have to come away with a black eye or busted limb to get this shot. :) Hope you didn't "let the cat out of the bag" though with this position, sounds like quite a zoo!?

No wonder so many people would want to do the same, these really are beautiful falls, and you've put them on grand display with this composition and exposure. The silky smooth flow depicts the complete contrary of insanity to obtain the same view. Smart to include the people near the top corner of the frame to give a strong idea of size and depth. Hello Way,
Very nice idea to present this waterfall in tightly cropped framing. The place is picturesque but I found it hard to photograph due to the difficult light at the time. Should have tried to take the photo this way :-)
I very much like the entire focus on the floating water which gained nice smoothness thanks to the longer exposure.

This is a great piece of art!!
The long exposure creates a great effect with the moving water. The lighting and color is outstanding and the photo has fine detail. The people on the overhang give a nice sense of scale for the shot.

Just when seeing the people on the lookout balcony atop the cascade, one can comprehend its size and height.
Beautiful location, white water with "silkey" texture, and to my surprise not with so prolonged shutter speed.

Fantastic action that really grabs attention showing the clear flow of natural movements and the dynamic energy of water. The cascades tend to look huge until the eye gets used to the composition and pov. The milky waters are the icing on the cake packed by good shadow and highlight detail when the rocks seem to glow in the light and one can almost feel the algae on them and emphasises the falls really well. I love the awesome colour depth and touch of autumnal and the contrast between the wonderful clarity of the surroundings and water. A really first class image, Congrats.

This is a very delicate and beautiful image, of a very special place. It is not hard to e why this features in movies, it looks like a scene from an ancient legend. The long exposure has worked so perfectly, while you balanced the light do well and captured such appealing colors. Your patience paid off well, this is a stunning result.

The catwalk terrace top right really adds scale to this huge waterfall which the thumbnail doesn't really do justice to. Good motion blur of the water and a perfect exposure on the white highlights. The fallen yellow leaves contrast well against the blue hues in the water. Tfs!

It would be impossible to guess the scale of these falls without people in the background. And this turns out to be surprisingly big. Fascinating how those cascades find so many routes to come down. Autumn colours look very good too.

The waterfalls are so silky. It took great skill taking the picture. I heard Jiuzhaigou is a natural wonder in China. But, I've never been there. Fortunately, I can enjoy it from a wonderful picture like this.

Lovely glimpse into Sichuan landscape. It's a pity it's so crowded but you did manage to find a great spot to take this long exposure image with no one bumping into your tripod legs.
Good idea to include the viewing platform. The people provide a sense of scale and red garments contrast with the natural colours of the surroundings.

You froze the waterfall on a very nice way, nice between the rocks.
But your picture is very well with depth and perspective taken, this is more important.

Thanks to your note, I understood the difficulty in getting this clean shot and thanks also to your resourcefulness, that we get a shot of this high quality, which we always expect and get from you. The framing has been well done, with the waterfall running from one corner of the frame to the other, diagonally. The slow shutterspeed renders the cascadingwater like silken threads. Far above on the right we see, what I assume is the viewing deck you mentioned, and the people standing here give a good idea of the scale.

great work here! In spite of the low light the quality is stunning. Fantastic contrast of the smoothed flowing water with the rough rocks covered with vegetation. I like also the presence of people in the corner, they allow to imagine the scale of the waterfall.
