Black Dragon Pool, a photo from 云南, South

Photographer's Note

One of the most classic pictures of China aside from the Great Wall. This is Black Dragon Pool in Lijiang with Jade Dragon Mountain in the background.

Lijiang is one of my favourite places in China with its picturesque old town. Ancient houses line the cobbled streets and small canals run past. There are countless small cafes to sit at and enjoy the atmosphere.

Yunnan province is not as well travelled as some of the other more famous parts of China but it's well worth a visit.

This image is scanned from a 35mm negative.

Great view. I like the perspective in it. The beautiful mountain in the background and then there is the foreground view with the house and the pool which is backed up by the framed mountain. Excellent composition.

Hi Jonathan,
Your posts are getting rare and it's been long since I've viewed a photo of yours, hope you still have time and energy to trek the planet and take nice photos. This one looks a bit old already despite the good quality of the scan, the angle and composition are fine showing a succession of elements from the water level up to the snowcapped mountains, the exotic touch is provided by the buildings, the relfection is lovely, works best to me !

This is a truly beautiful scene, Jonathon - both in terms of architecture and nature.

Great shot Jonathan! The colour and sharpness give this a lot of impact, almost like being there. I like the combination of elements, with the temple, bridge, forest and mountain all in harmony and complementing each other. Beautiful!

One of the last remaining idyllic corners of China, exceptional image quality for a 6 year old scan. I'm torn between going there again or going to India instead. I wanted to do Chengdu and Jiyuajouahjzhajhouzhouan, I can't spell it, you know that place with the waterfalls and the blue pools, still undecided, I have to find a a way to fill 2 weeks between Jakarta and Kathmandu in October.

Hi Jonathan,

Wonderful photo of the Black Dragon Pool. Lijiang is also my favorite place in China (with JZG). Here you were very lucky to have such a blue sky and clear view of the Jade Dragon Mountain. What reflexions you have here! I had no such luck. Even on sunny days the sky was never blue beacause of smog.
