Photographer's Note
I SHOT IT AT GANGASAGAR MELA(FAIR).FOCAL LENGTH=35MM.
Gangasagar Mela is the largest fair celebrated in West Bengal(INDIA). This fair is held where the Ganga and the Bay of Bengal form a nexus. Hence the name Gangasagar Mela. This festival is celebrated during January every year and is a major attraction for millions of piligrams from all over India.
The pilgrims come for a holy dip on Makar Sankranti (last day of the Bengali Month) Negha -Mid January. They take dips in the Ganges and offer water to the Sun God. The dip, as they say, purifies their 'self' and according to them, 'punya' can be obtained thus. When they are done with the ritual obligations, they head towards the Kapilmuni Temple situated nearby, to worship the deity as a mark of respect.

Hi Subir,
Excellent photo. Although the background is a little busy, the main subject still standout. India always fasinates me with its colorful and unusual rituals. I reckon if I visit the place one day, my 1 giga memory card will not be enough with all these wonderful scenes. Well captured and thanks for sharing.
Cheers,

Hi Subir,
Super stuff! The background actually enhances the subject because you have managed to isolate the subject.
Good POV and use of DOF.

This is a great picture, Subir, no question. The breathtaking epic sweep if the thing, the way that wet, red sari swirls in the foreground, alone against the mob so to speak, is fabulous...
Congratulations!

Subir,
A most Fantastic one from you...
So much grace & fantasy spun here...
The colours contrasting so much & the moment frozen is superb...
Placing her to the left of your frame has been a thoughtful addition.
well done.

Brilliant capture with the red garment blowing in the wind. I would like to see this in Black and white with only the dress in red, just athought. I have done a workshop using this idea, hope you like it!

Hi Subir,
Beautiful array of colors you have captured here. I don't mind the background being very crowded here because it shows how many pilgrims there are at this festival.
You managed very well to focus on this woman only with some distance to the other pilgrims which makes this composition work.
Well done,
Harko

Hello Subir,
This is a very colorful picture of a very exotic event. The great exposure rendered beautiful, vivid colors! I also find the frame very appropriate! The only minor point is that I would have preferred the head of the woman in the foreground not to touch the horizon line. I would rather see the profile of her head against the sky. The fact that the wind was blowing into her clothes is beneficial for the overall look of the picture. Thanks for sharing!
Warmest Regards,
Eddie

And this one is brilliant too. Superbly timed. My only wish is that her head just a bit below the line of crowd againt the water...too difficult...(you needed get taller!), but otherwise a perfect and a dramatic capture of this elegant moment.

Hello Subir,
This is one of the most extraordinary photographs I've seen of the celebrated dip in the Ganges. The brilliant red sari worn by the woman adds a highlight to the otherwise muddy tones of the shallow water. I love the the composition, colors and resolution.
